Another question. I purchased my Dongar adapter before I even got my truck. I recently had the opportunity to install my dash cam, along with the Dongar adapter.

I have the adapter set to "T" which is my understanding to be "timed mode". I also have my dash cam, the VIOFO a229 pro, set to enter parking mode 90sec after ignition off. Parking mode in camera is set to "Auto event detection" as well. What my problem is, the camera never goes into parking mode. It just continues to record, until the adapter powers it down. I never get any recordings in the "Parking" folder on the VIOFO app.

Is this standard operating procedure for this combination? Am I missing something? I've never had a dash cam before, but I must be missing something.

Help?

Ahh, I see. That thread you linked is very helpful. Must be the ACC sensing not working somehow. I never considered a hardwire kit, very neat idea. Thanks.

**sits and thinks about options now.**

I can get Dongar Pro in T mode with the Viofo A229 Pro into parking mode like this:

Dongar Pro <-> USB-C to USB-A Adapter <-> Original Viofo USB Cable <-> Viofo A229

After 2-3 minutes of not moving, the Viofo will automatically enter parking mode.

Upon inspecting the original Viofo cable, it appears the D+ and D- lines are shorted. This is sometimes known as a USB charging cable (as opposed to data cable). However, the short USB-C to USB-C cable shipped by Dongar does not have those lines shorted which is why I believe your Viofo does not enter parking mode.

Viofo mentions the importance of the original cable here:

In case you want/need to test parking mode at home, you can use our original car charge cable or the short data cable and wait for 5 minutes quietly as per the below video.

https://support.viofo.com/support/s...se-an-external-battery-pack-for-parking-mode-

So, I have been looking into getting or making a short USB-C to USB-C "charging only" cable with the D+ and D- lines shorted. I believe this will allow the Viofo camera to automatically trigger parking mode. However, I have read that some people have issues getting the camera out of parking mode without shutting the camera down. I haven't investigated this issue yet.

Oh wow! Thanks for that info. My charge cable is out of the box, I’m going to figure out a way I can try it. :like:

**edit** I tried my charge cable with a USB-A to C adapter I have from a data transfer between old cellphones I had. This adapter may very well be wrong, but using the VIOFO camera charge cable and the Dongar. No joy. :crying:

Very interesting. If you power the Viofo using the original cable (the one that's like 10 feet long) from a non-Dongar charger in the house and leave the camera alone for 5 minutes, does parking mode work then?

Sorry, tried before being out all day. Then I forgot to reply. No, no it did not kick into parking mode. I ordered the HK4 hardwire kit. I’m going to temporarily modify the 5-pin harness to try its functionality. We will see, hopefully I have time tomorrow.:wait:

Okay, to anyone reading this thread, my apologies. I misread what @afuiw said in this post. Let me explain,

I tried the method of using a type A-C adapter on the 10-ft charge cable. That DIDN’T work. I tried same 10-ft cable with a USB-C wall adapter, no joy.

I was about to modify the Dongar harness to tap it for the HK4 kit from VIOFO, but I looked in the camera box one more time, to see if I was missing anything. Under all the manuals and accessories, I found a 3-ft USB AtoC cable. Aha!! Now I know what @afuiw was talking about. Grabbed my adapter, went to the truck, and after installing it, about 6-min of waiting, “Parking recording started.”

Thank you, thank you, thank you sir! Your patient explanation solved this one that I wouldn’t have even tried.

Interesting. What's the specific USB C to USB A adapter that you used that's charging only (no data)? Not sure if I'm searching for the right thing but Amazon is only pulling up adapters that does data.

Mine is old, like 5-6 years or more. It was an old A-C adapter I got with an iPhone 8, to transfer data from my android phone to the iPhone. It must be data, but I think the 3ft VIOFO cord is the real answer.

Right, using the original Viofo cable is the important bit. I think it doesn't matter what A-C adapter you use.

Still don't know what's special about the Viofo cables though. In my A229 package, the 10 foot had the D+ and D- lines shorted which is what I thought was important. But the shorter 3 foot didn't have D+ and D- shorted.

Got it! I'll give it a try and will report back. Where did you tuck the super long Viofo provided cable? I haven't tried but I can't image it'll fit in the cavity behind the rear view mirror.

You need to make sure it’s the right VIOFO cord. There’s the 10ft one, and a shorter 2-3ft one. I used the short one, with the adapter, and ziptied and tucked the excess in the headliner.

I don't have a short 2-3 feet cable. It came with 2 super long ones that came with my A229 Pro. One long cable I used for the rear camera. The other long cable has been sitting in the box because I didn't need it since I used the short cable that came with the Dongar.

Huh, I don’t know. I know my cord was under all the accessories that came with the box, and I just decided to pull everything from the box before I cut up my Dongar harness. I tried the long one you’re talking about and it didn’t work for me, YMMV.
