Got my gas tank drilled

So Monday I go to leave for work and make it like 100 feet up the road and smell gasoline. I turn around and get home and look and I'm spilling gas from my tank.

I call the cops they decided just fill out the form online. I get towed to my dealership and call insurance not knowing what to do. I was pissed and beat down. I paid my deductible and got her fixed right. Put up a 24/7 recording camera not motion only they didn't trip and record. The dealership to my amazement got it on Monday insurance guy approved it on Tuesday and had a new gas tank installed on wendsday.

To steal fuel. I have an old Ranger and had the same thing happen to me. The local cops said thieves drill the plastic tanks to avoid siphoning and are able to drain most of the fuel out. I had about $10 worth of gas and ended up spending $500 for the deductible. I would have happily handed the thief $50 to leave me alone!

Not the brightest thieves given the small size of our gas tanks. You would think they would target some full size truck. This really sucks, I am sorry to hear this happened.

Would a gas tank skid plate work to prevent this? Also, in which city did this occur?
