Help getting in 2026 Tacoma

On my 4 Tacoma as just went from 2018 SR5 Double Cab to a 2026 SR5 Double Cab. It came with standard Tacoma side bars. In out late late 70s and installed N-Fab steps on the 2018 and they worked for wife after 3 surgeries. The Tacoma side bars on the 2026 are 2.5 inches higher and a struggle for her to get in and only going to get worst for both of us. Dealer since part of standard package won’t take them back. So in $625. Has anyone ever added a spacer block to lower down the step??! Any suggestions? I want to get down to the 13-13.5 off the ground. We don’t go off road. Help

I do not have a specific part or vendor recommendation.

I noticed from the maps you don't appear to be near any major city. I don't know if you have a family member or friend that could coordinate with you in taking the truck for a period of time to a shop.

I would consider reaching out to any regional businesses and agencies which make modifications to vehicles to enhance accessibility. Mods to existing bits. Aftermarket kits involving powered and non-powered options. They might be able to install blocks as you mentioned, or have a better solution still.

There's some pretty cool stuff out there, but the shop is going to need to review, measure and discuss before anything happens.

Here is some information specific to Elk County, PA. I realize you're looking to mod your truck and not your home. But this office might be able to refer you to someone.

"The NORTHERN TIER ACCESS GRANT (NTAG) is available to citizens of Elk, Cameron, McKean, and Potter Counties. The program can help with accessibility modifications (ramps, chair lifts, etc.). Information about the program can be obtained by calling Life and Independence For Today, (814) 781-3050."

Elk County Area Agency on Aging Could also provide a referral for vehicle accessibility options and modifications.

The Area Agency on Aging for Elk County, Pennsylvania is the Office of Human Services which also serves Cameron and McKean counties. You can reach them by phone at (800) 672-7145 or (814) 776-2191, or visit their main office located at 108 Center Street, Ridgway, PA 15853.

Not knowing all the specifics, you could also start Googling for businesses in the area. Anything from mechanic's shops to fabricators to people who repair farming equipment.

I would recommend a RAV4 Hybrid. Already low and seats are butt height while standing flat foot on the ground. All wheel drive and excellent gas mileage. Had one as a company vehicle and was force into driving a 2026 Chevy Silverado EV.
