Hi,
Just came back from Toyota and they can’t find the problem why my tailgate does not want to close. I can open it from the inside and also both buttons outside is working. But when I tried to close it I only get the two beeps.
Thank You

I had this problem when I got my truck.

Try prying away the plastic trim from the metal where it’s marked on the picture below.

I guess that plastic trim is the sensor that detects if the door is closed or if there is obstruction. I had to work mine a couple times, it’s worked fine since.

Nothing but problems out of those automatic tailgates. Sometimes technology isn't the answer.
Definitely. I am moving to a new house and using my truck for, you know, truck stuff. It would be so much easier with a manual tailgate with just damped opening. I spend way too much time waiting for the tailgate to open/close and as a bonus it kills the charge in my 12 volt battery.

Between the tailgate and the safety nazis I find myself wanting an older and simpler truck without all of this garbage. I probably should have kept my Tundra with a V8 and very few electronic "aides".

I am a software developer, not some tin foil hat dude, and the automation and electronics on modern trucks is totally out of control.

Yep same situation here with the dev part. The more I use technology and see it integrated into everything, the less I want use it.

Thanks for the info, I did get it to work and I did play with the plastic trim and other stuff so I don’t really know what made it work.

Mine just wouldn't close all the way on its own for maybe 1st 6 months, and dealer was no good when taking it in for the free services for 30k miles.
Pretty certain they never rotated my tires.
But tailgate has been a charm since she broke in.

Almost 50k miles in 16 months and that has been absolutely only issue other than mpg was horrible until after like 8k miles of break in.
