The automatic shutdown of the I.C.E. can be bypassed by operating the shift lever in "S" mode.
Since the AC and all accessories will continue to run when the ICE is off, why would you want to bypass the auto shutdown?Or Tow/Haul mode.

For me, it's just a personal preference thing. I don't care for the delay of the I.C.E. on restart and will immediately look for the auto start/stop disable button in any rental cars I come across that have it.Since the AC and all accessories will continue to run when the ICE is off, why would you want to bypass the auto shutdown?
Agreed. Reading my previous response, I think I was answering one thought by typing another. I don't specifically defeat it on the taco. Although, I probably would if there was a dedicated button to do so. I had stumbled across the S mode defeat while exploring the features of the truck. Turns out it is also described in the OM.But when I move off from a start, my truck starts moving on the traction motor while also starting the ICE and the whole thing is so seamless I hardly notice that the engine wasn't there from the beginning. So for me there is no need to defeat it or to even pay a lot of attention to what is going on.
The Tacoma can also drive with the electric motor under half the motors load limit before the ICE kicks onThe Tacoma iForce Max does not have a true EV mode. It is entirely designed to function as a power and torque assist. The Tundra however can drive on full EV when throttle is depressed below a certain threshold. When you come to a stop and the motor turns off that isnt because it is a hybrid but because of the Stop/Start system.
Yeah, not sure where you heard that. On flat roads between 40-45mph mine will regularly shut the engine down and cruise for several minutes. When I pull into my neighborhood and drive 20mph it's all EV and when in parking lots I cruise around full EV.The Tacoma iForce Max does not have a true EV mode. Yeah, that is how my truck works too.Yeah, not sure where you heard that. On flat roads between 40-45mph mine will regularly shut the engine down and cruise for several minutes. When I pull into my neighborhood and drive 20mph it's all EV and when in parking lots I cruise around full EV.
I work at Toyota and the ones I have driven around have never gone into EV mode even at slow speeds or barely touching the throttle even in Eco, while the Capstone Tundra demo truck on the lot drives in EV just about any time you are not accelerating. Even in the information brochure we had when the truck first released, it said it does not drive on EV alone. Guess that's either outdated or just wrong.Yeah, not sure where you heard that. Interesting and I guess my truck never read that brochure. lolI work at Toyota and the ones I have driven around have never gone into EV mode even at slow speeds or barely touching the throttle even in Eco, while the Capstone Tundra demo truck on the lot drives in EV just about any time you are not accelerating. Yea its weird that none of the ones on the lot have driven in EV mode on any of the test drives. We have sold Pros, the Hybrid Limited and Off Roads. And its not like it was simply because the battery pack wasn`t charged either as the gauge would show it being 3/4 or higher. Maybe something during the PDI process was left unfinished until the vehicle is sold keeping it disabled.Interesting and I guess my truck never read that brochure. lol
I have had my truck for over 9 months now and it spends some time running with the ICE off on pretty much every drive. I don't ever use Eco mode, but you would think that would make it spend more time in EV mode, not lock it out.
I can promise you that in Normal mode my Pro drives fairly often on just the traction battery unless you push the accelerator too hard. Once I get into my neighborhood it will drive to my house and into my garage without ever starting the ICE again.
