if you could only do one mod on your 4th Gen Tacoma, what’s the move?

I've owned my truck since March. It has lots of modifications directed at making it an overlanding camper. Of all the modifications I've done, the Cam Performance tune was the most significant. The Dirtbox camper would be second.

Given the option of only one, I'd probably choose the one I haven't even done yet. Shoes. Wheels/tires make or break a rig, especially in capability. In the offroad space lockers and tires are what really get you where you need to go, everything else is style, comfort, or speed at which you get there. Since the Offroad and higher trims come with factory rear lockers, and the onboard traction system is very good to make up for the lack of front locker, I'd say the choice would be obvious from a strictly capability standpoint.

As for utility, I'd say a bed cover of some sort. I went soft topper, but any form of cover such as hard topper or tonneau cover for dry cargo. Especially for those of us in the snow regions.

Smart cap/OVS cap. I got the OVS because I’m cheap and the smart cap is $ for basically the same thing, but in a material I can’t weld on.

How old? That complaint is one that always makes me wonder. I'm in late 60s and don't get that one. I find it as simple as just get in if that's right from the ground or stepping on running boards. The only time I grab is in river guide mode to strap boats if I'm on rough or slanted ground.

My hip is a bit janky. The A-pillar handle (and running boards) helps me slide in under the steering wheel. I still have a hard time getting out sometimes. But the handle is definitely a mod I use every time I get in the truck.

Good luck with the aging and well being stuff. It's work I don't care for as in joining a gym, but have made good progress via more fun activities. Volunteer work I do is showing the importance if only for quality of life. Some meetups with people I've known lifelong have been shocking reminders.
