Super easy install overall. The hardest part was removing the plastic frame caps without breaking them — a plastic trim removal tool definitely helped. Really happy with how this mod turned out and the added functionality/looks it brings to the Tacoma.

Did your truck come with reinforcement sleeves welded to the frame where you bolted the recovery points?

If I remember correctly, models with the plugs in the frame do not have the sleeves necessary to torque these down. Doing so without the sleeves can bend your frame. I had to add aftermarket sleeves to my SR5 when I installed my rear recovery points.

Cornfed Suspension sells the sleeves for a reasonable cost - https://cornfedsuspension.com/4th-gen-tacoma-recoverypoints/

Disregard if you already have the collars.

Good question. I will have to check. The need for the reinforcers is for when you install or if you use them in a recovery situation?

You need the sleeves to be able to torque the bolts to spec without damaging your frame. The bolts need to be torqued to spec in order to use them for any recovery situation.

If you're simply looking for aesthetics, then don't torque the bolts too high and just know to never pull from those.

It's fairly cheap insurance to buy the sleeves and install them in the event you ever need to use the recovery points.

If these are from Lexland, I can guarantee that they're for aesthetic use only, not real world application.

I mean I tend to agree with you, but also, it's just a hunk of forged steel. I suppose they could be using a mild steel.
