Mangoal tester scam- promising a test device, collecting personal information and reneging…

Mangoal PM’ed me saying I was selected for their dashcam and said they were getting the package ready for shipping and just needed my name, address, and phone number. After I supplied the information, they now say they will get back to me If it get’s ready to ship.

So this Chinese company just got my personal information via a scam on our forum. Who else is this happening to?

Admin’s, I would appreciate your weighing in on this vendors behavior.

I think there might be a misinterpretation here. They sent me a message as well:

Mine is worded a bit better. The whole point is, it's not a giveaway but product testing for their new parking harness. They have the dash cameras for sale right now, and you can buy one. But the parking harness is the new product they want tested and selected 3 of us to do so. One will get the only prototype harness and camera, you and I will get a "production" harness and camera when they arrive stateside. Atleast thats my interpretation.

I'm also doing something similar with Mabett with a set of flare mounted lights. Something to keep in mind with new product testing, its not always perfect or ready to ship. The part you recieve may not be perfect. You signed up to be a guinea pig to recieve one of the first products, give them feedback and inquire with any issues, then post a review here when its all done.

These companies often do not make the product. They may design the product, do some basic testing, but mostly act as the "middle man" between consumer and manufacturer. They can be state side or foreign. Same as any other brand. Most "American" companies source their products from over seas manufacturers and are simply giving them designs and specifications.

I'll be posting a review of those lights, but to give you an idea, they didn't include everything required for install (which I will explain further in the review) which I already addressed with Mabett who now knows to make adjustments with the manufacturer.

Received the same message re prototype harness. I responded late last night…. I half expect to wait longer, but we’ll see if I receive a shipping advice.

I don’t think there’s anything in my exchange that’s subject to interpretation. They said I was selected and they were getting the package ready to ship and would provide a tracking number.

After Asking for and getting my personal information they said, we’ll let you know if if another batch opens up which clearly means another batch may not and now we have your personal information and can do whatever we please with it.

A fair exchange is info for product that I’d be keeping after testing. Instead they get my information which is valuable in many ways and I get nothing. I call bait and switch scam on that and so should you.

If their whole operation here is to get peoples personal information and they are doing the same to other forum members that they did to me, I wanted to let everyone know so they don’t get you too and admins could take care of them.

As soon as sponsorship money for the forum is involved, administrators will do nothing. You know the saying, don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
