I found a nail in my tire yesterday and took it to my local Toyota dealership for them to pull it out and patch it.

they said the nail didn’t go into the inner wall of the tire and there was no issue. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Guess if it didn’t go all the way through they probably can’t patch it.

Did they pull it out?
They did pull it out and it seems to be holding air. Unfortunately they threw the nail away before I saw it so I don’t know how long it was and how close it was to going all the way through. I suppose if the tire holds air for the next few days it shoild be fine

If it makes you feel better, spray soapy water on it and make sure there isn't any bubbles.

You were lucky it was in a lug. It's probably fine if the dealer doesn't see a need to patch. Slappy is right that the stock tires suck. Learned that when I had to replace the tires on my Gen 3 at 7K miles with 10 ply off road tires and didn't have another issue over 100K miles. So I knew better when I had 18K miles on this set before I had a chance to play off road. Eight miles up a dirt track I scraped over some rocks and cut a sidewall. The spare did not inspire confidence, but I was able to drive on it 120 miles to the nearest tire store. At 50 mph it was a long trip. I'm on 10 ply's again with a stock tire replacing the spare.

Thank you for your reply. I put soapy water on it this morning and didn’t see a leak.

do you have a recommendation for upgraded tires?

Using the soapy water gives good peace of mind for sure.
There are so many different needs for tires, I'd be remiss to suggest something at this point. I know I play in rough country, but not extreme and not as rough as when I was younger. I put more miles on paved roads than unpaved, so look for something that is serviceable off road while ok on the blacktop for noise and handling. I'm fortunate to have a couple tire guys who are knowledgeable and have a reputation for fairness. Develop your sources, do some research, and get what you are comfortable with. Enjoy the drive.

Thanks again for taking time to reply. Great advice and I will certainly start investigating some better tires. Thanks again!

Just make sure you don't get tires that are too heavy for what you need, unsprung weight is a killer. I went from stock to ko3's and can physically feel the difference in acceleration. The only reason i went with ko3's is that I live and work in the oilfield and need extra protection from road debris.
