Good day all, I need to get together four or five people with brake controller issues on 4th generation Tacoma's. Toyota has omitted the connection point for the 7 pin trailer plug, and, you cannot install an OEM controller after the factory. After market controllers must be cut into the factory wiring beside the rear passenger seat. This is unacceptable for a vehicle sold with a "tow package" I have already filled a complaint with the competition bureau but plan to go to the media in Jan, my vehicle was sold as rated to tow 6400 lbs. and this cannot occur without a brake controller, false and misleading advertising plan and simple. I have followed this up as far as the CEO of Toyota Canada office, they clearly know there is a problem and would prefer I went away :)

Best of luck, I'm hoping for either a better aftermarket or an OEM solution to my lack of controller in the future. When I bought my truck, I did so knowing it didn't have a brake controller. It was the only option it didn't have that I wanted, but even then it was still a month long wait. I had mistakenly assumed the addition at a later date would be simple and relatively inexpensive at the Dealer. I was mistaken.

Frankly I only really have two complaints about my truck. The lack of good truck noises (4 bangers just don't sound good) which I knew, and the complete lack of ability to add oem options after arrival. Typically all harnesses and/or hardware are there just capped off, not outright missing. It's cheaper and easier to install a single, identical harness on all trucks and only utilize required circuits.

What is that?

Were you aware of the brake controller issue before you bought the truck?

"my vehicle was sold as rated to tow 6400 lbs. and this cannot occur without a brake controller..."

Why not buy a Curt in-line controller and call it good?

The harnesses may be there, but that doesn't mean it's plug & play. GM's have the connections in place, but you cannot add an OEM brake controller after the fact. They refuse to update the programming appropriately. However, they do a pretty good job of building in connections for aftermarket controllers. That's where Toyota really dropped the ball on this one.
