This. The hyper milers are masters of coasting. I’d avoid using adaptive cruise in the city, only use it out on flat-ish hwy
I'm not really a hyper miler like l just know to be smooth, deliberate and strategic from heavy equipment, driving semis and running rivers. Where the all of this made me smile is just noticing how others using my vehicles drop the average MPG, and how I often arrive faster or on time without aggressive driving.

For 15 MPG with the 4G Tacoma, I'm convinced that has to be short distance aggressive on throttle city driving, fast freeway, headwinds, and trailering. I just helped our son get a sailboat 400 miles away. It was a 24 MPG average there and pulling 5000 pounds back home dropped it to 14.

A stock TRD OR with the BFG Trail TA. Any and all mods are barely relevant. My Fas-Top Traveller (all in one tonneau/topper) is not too heavy. It, tools often with me and adjustable ball mount might be 120-200 pounds. Except for extremes or weather I understand, it's mostly within EPA mileage estimates. Smooth 60 MPH driving can top EPA estimates.

Small fuel tank would be my biggest complaint about the whole vehicle.

question. I just got a 25 Tacoma and feel like I’m not getting good mileage I’m getting 15 miles per gallon. I’m on the point that I been driving my 06 2.7 Tacoma every day and every time I come home and I see my new Tacoma and I just shake my head.
Sounds to me like you have a heavy foot. I'm averaging around 21-22 mpg over the last 20k miles.

Just checked my mileage the right way.. fill up and do the math. 18.6 and I drive crazy at times and other times just poking along with no freeway just country roads. When the tank gets down to 1/4 I just fill it back up

I'm going to assume so - pretty impressive numbers and I doubt that would be possible on larger / more aggressive tires.
When I get the 22-25+ MPG highway mileage results it's typically two lane highway with adaptive cruise set at 62, longer gap, and 50-150 miles mostly moving 55-60 MPH. Sometimes faster freeway driving can be 21-22 MPG but headwinds, speed and what I carry can drop that average fast. High speed freeway with headwinds and cargo can make it hard to get 20 MPG.

At this point I've seen and discussed with other 4th gen owners including exact same long bed TRD OR. The consensus seems to be anyone who drives their broken in vehicle well easily sits in or near the EPA ratings.

The EPA highway test is an average 48 MPH, a burst to 80, and 60 MPH driving. Same sort of driving gets me same sorts of results or better.

Yep, I think it's all about the speed. Did a 140-mile trip a couple days ago. Country highway in mountains, mostly 55 with some 45. Also 15 miles of dirt road at 20 or less. Economy meter shows 25 mpg.

It would be interesting if someone with larger tires could do a similar run and post what they get.

I don't want to touch the tire formula. I'm not an off-road hobbyist nor play in mud on purpose, but I'm off road a lot doing trail work and ski area operations stuff. My personal interests have me powder chasing and at the unimproved river launches for whitewater. The stock OR is extremely capable, same for those Trail TA tires, and those tires are civil for my also needing to do road travel.

My past experiences with large AT tires and modifications really hurt performance for wet and handling dynamics - even comfort. I don't want those compromises when the stock TRD OR including the tires is off road a lot and doing well.

We didn't get much better when new but it slowly got better with more miles.
21.5 average most always by the time it had 15k miles as it slowly creeper upward.
Would be better if it wasn't my wife's daily driver of 90 miles a day 5 days a week (mostly highway and almost zero traffic) for work, as she does doesn't give it a break getting up to speed.
I can get 22 on a trip running 77mph.
Can easily get 24 @ 70 mph but we do live I the far south, almost all flatland.
All 100% stock, and adaptive cruise 100% of the time running in eco with cheapest gas available.
