I was wondering if anyone has added power to a standard tailgate on a 4th gen Taco. And if so please provide details or links to how it's down.

I wanted the Premium package when I looked for my newly purchased TRD OR but the power tailgate is the one feature I wish my truck didn't have. I curious why you want the feature. The tailgate is already pretty dang lightweight. I do like the tailgate release feature. But I see the motorized lift feature as two failure points(lift and latch) that are unnecessary. Just my opinion.

You’re right about the tailgate being pretty lightweight. I just thought it would be a nice feature to have.

It is a neat feature. I hope to learn to appreciate it and that it will provide me with long term trouble free usage. I may not be giving Toyota enough credit because they have been doing power lift gates on SUV's for many years. The tailgate is likely less weight which may lead to being even more trouble free. I like it.... as long as it's working. :sunglasses:

It reminds me of when backup cameras first started appearing in vehicles. My initial reaction was, "Do we really need this?" But after using one for a while, I found myself wishing I had enjoyed that convenience much sooner.

Same thing with power windows and door locks—I could go on. The point is, these features tend to grow on you over time.

I'm guessing a retrofit would set you back a fair amount, but that's just a guess on my part.

Exactly.

Back in the day, I just considered it one more thing to break—particularly with power windows and cruise control. Now, I can't imagine any trip without cruise control. As for the windows, it's the same. Look how they have evolved: first, manual cranks; then, with power windows, you had to hold the button for up/down; then auto up/down for the driver only; and finally, auto up/down for all four windows. I'm sure this country's health issues can be traced back to the elimination of manual windows.

I have an easy fix for that. Simply pull about 20 feet from a Telephone Pole and place it in reverse and slam into said pole aiming your tailgate into the pole. I feel confident that it will be disabled and not function like it currently does for you.

Problem solved.
