PSA: Dealership not helping? Call corporate Toyota.

PSA: If your truck is having an issue, and the dealership isn't addressing it (or giving you the "normal characteristic" BS response) you absolutely need to call Toyota and open a case with the Brand Engagement Center. That's the only way you'll get anything done, and it will help other Tacoma owners by informing Corporate Toyota that an issue exists. Dealerships don't report these things to Corporate. Call 1-800-331-4331, ask for the Brand Engagement Center.

Also, update (that's not an update) to my prior post about my vibration issue... I continue to get the "normal characteristic" BS response, and my case was escalated with Corporate Toyota. No resolution yet. Blah.

I'm in Canada and Toyota Corporate Canada is (so far) a joke. I talked to someone there and opened a case regarding an issue my dealer refuses to address. Their resolution was to suggest I go to another dealership.

Dealers are only as good as their best tech and unfortunately good techs are hard to come by. Especially with all of us who were smart just outright changing careers. Hard to justify constantly racing the clock, destroying your body, and having to constantly buy new tools at what they pay when you can put the same skills to use in another trade that pays double and requires none of that.

Speaking of your vibration though, without reading your whole thread it sounds harmonic to me. By chance have you looked over your drive shaft to see if it chucked a balance weight? You could also try chocking the wheels, with the truck in neutral and seeing if there's excessive play in the rear diff. There's actually an old guide table that used to be reasonably accurate that showed speed dependent vibrations and their typical causes. I'll have to see if I can find it.

That's a tough one. If you have another dealership nearby, they might suck less. But if you have no other option, escalate with Corporate and ask them to present a resolution.

It's definitely harmonic - it's a 1/2 order subharmonic of transmission input frequency (AKA engine RPM - but it's not the engine, since it happens in neutral). Unrelated to the driveshaft or rear diff frequency.

I have also inspected the driveshaft and it's physically fine, as is the carrier bearing. No play, damage, missing weights.

I haven't put it on stands and ran it yet. I'm not convinced it's driveshaft related. @Reptar had his driveshaft replaced and it didn't solve anything. The FTS and I agree that it's likely the transmission.

In Canada as well, Toyota corporate / brand engagement is equivalent to a bunch of one armed orangutans. 3 trips to the dealer before issue was fixed, that the dealer caused in the first place. Canada needs a lemon law like the US has.

that said, I do know this, Toyota corporate automatically track customer complaints about vehicles based on what’s written on the work order (All new car manufacturers do it) each warranty repair and complaint is available to the manufacture, when they see multiple complaints on work orders from multiple dealers a flag is created. What they do with the information when those flags happen, another story, but there are flags they get for sure for repetitive problems.
