Recently went on a camping trip and about 2 hours from my house my Jeep got the infamous death wobble. I've heard about it and know my model was prone to it but I've never experienced it. It was quite the jarring experience. My wife was with me at the time and it scared the living daylight out of her. We decided to head back home and park the Jeep for good.
We were really looking forward to our trip so I said screw it lets go car shopping. Ive always wanted a Toyota pickup so we started looking at the Tacoma.
Ended up finding a White 2025 TRD Off-Road iForce Max with about 8000 miles on it that was used as a dealer loaner. Price was about 42k plus taxes and fees which I don't think was too bad for being basically a brand new truck.
It came with the same warranty as a new truck would have and I paid an extra 2k to extend the bumper to bumper to the same 7 year 100k mile as the powertrain.
I do not plan on putting many miles on this thing so 7 years will happen before 100k. I put about 4k miles on my Jeep in the past 5 years.
Anyways! Went into town and bought the truck. Immediately took it home and loaded it up and went on our camping trip. Was out for 4 days in the Sierra National Forest here in California. Tried to get to the Bald Mountain lookout but found a quite large down tree blocking the path. I was with someone that was not very experienced so we decided to turn back and head back to camp.
Here is its first ever outing at Little Nellie Falls!

Would like to get a topper for the bed so I can store everything in it while camping and lock up the food overnight. Also need to get a new rooftop tent. Something sleek and hard shell to help save on fuel mileage. I am LOVING the fuel mileage this gets compared to the Jeep.

Looking to keep this thread updated as I adventure out and build up the truck to my liking.

My wife's Wrangler gets way better MPGs than my taco 😂 but it's the 4 cylinder turbo wrangler. We also got the death wobble on a road trip and it was scary AF! Been trying to talk her into trading for a 4runner, but she loves the Jeep.

Nice looking truck! Welcome to the forum 🤝

Is the Wrangler modified at all? I'm willing to bet keeping them stock helps keep the mileage good.

My Jeep was lifted with 32s and is an old 220k mile V8. With the tent on top I averaged 12mpg at best.

Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully you can talk you wife into trading up. There is a 4runner down the street from me that looks absolutely gorgeous. It looks to be a higher trim model. Too much for me but I do like looking at it lol.

That'll do it!

We just have 275/70r18s and a steel bumper on the wrangler, but if it's just my wife and I we get 25mpg on road trips. Tacoma is @ 19 with the same size tires and the Topo Topper.

Thats not bad for a steel bumper and large tires! I was shocked to be getting that with the stock Tacoma off the lot as a hybrid!
Here is my Jeep with the tent and awning removed from the roof rack. Also a steel bumper. Im sure the thing weights a ton. Tires are equivalent to a 265/75 R15.

Nice, and welcome! I always throw the 18" Dewalt battery chainsaw and recovery kit in the back when hitting the trails. Ran into that situation first time out, now I don't leave home without them. Cut both sides of the log, and used the strap to roll it out of the way.

Me too. I replaced by 2024 Jeep Gladiator with a Trailhunter. I went through two auxiliary batteries, including the original one from the factory at one month, and the second one stopped on the freeway. I think the Rubicon Gladiator is a better off-road vehicle than the Trailhunter, but not by much, but it wasn't worth the hassle.
