RESET the multi media display system

I've read a couple of posts the seem to say they have to restart the truck to clear "issues" with the multimedia screen on Tacoma's. I just thought I'd mention (FWIW) the you can reset that display (make it restart/reboot) while you're running down the road. Simply press and hold ("hardware on-off knob and volume control") the on-off and volume switch (not the "radio enable soft touch) for 5 or so seconds. It will for sure reboot that part of the system.

Does it matter volume up / down or does either work?

Just push and hold down the big power knob. Screen will go blank and reboot with Toyota Logo showing After blank.

its more of a power cycling (reboot) than reset.

Most are very familiar with this especially if you use remote start and carplay. I do it at least once a day
