You are referring to "civilized" parts of Tx.
Thy driving in Utah, southwestern NM, or 200+ miles Transamerica trails with an 18.2 gallon tank.
I don't think so.
PS: I did not know Padre Island was available for overlanding. Did you start at Padre Island town?
TBH last time I drove in Utah I had 200 gallons of diesel and it was about 15 years ago. Anyways to answer your question it starts here:

Ends here. 130 miles round trip on sand.

They allow camping wherever you want just stay off the dunes since there are turtle nests, snakes and other stuff they want to protect.

I do not see a bridge across the cut, so I presume you have to drive back.
Thanks

Seems common that most folks are not seeing the EPA rated mileage with their Trailhunter. We're expecting to pick one up in a couple weeks. I have not heard anything this poor though.

Don't think I caught it in the thread... have you started modifying tires, lifting, etc? Tad more context will help me appreciate your situation better.

Thx
I'm getting 14.8 MPG, no modifications, just extra weight from RTT, bed rack and CBI Covert bumper + WARN EVO 12S.

Have to smile—“no mods,” yet you've listed four of them.

You don't say, but if you're using a full-height bed rack with an RTT standing over the cab...that’s practically a wind sail. Let's tally it up:

RTT: ~150 lbs

Bed rack: ~74 lbs

CBI Covert bumper: ~104 lbs

WARN EVO 12-S winch: ~72 lbs

That's roughly 400 lbs added, not to mention the aerodynamic drag from the elevated RTT.

While I wouldn't expect such a significant drop in MPG, it's clear the setup isn't stock. Toting all that around is going to impact your mileage; it's not the 'nothing' you seem to suggest it is.
