I've got the same OR and just did a four-hour trip. 24.7 MPG.

It's where you drive and how you do it.
Yep. The very first time I did a tank-to-tank calculation of MPG I got 26.3. That was before I had 1000 miles on the truck. If you live somewhere that you do a lot of stop and go, drive at high speeds (I've seen a lot of comments saying that they "only" go 10 mph over the speed limit), or have a heavy foot you aren't going to get that.

Aerodynamically our trucks are basically bricks, so you will never get thoses EPA numbers unless you drive at the crazy low speeds the EPA uses for the tests.

After having my truck for about 5000 miles it doesn't get the best mileage, but if you are getting 11mpg you gotta be letting it idle for 20 minutes or doing something dumb.

I drove 80 mile round trip with hills on the 4th to get to the lake for some fishing. I hit 23 avg, all highway.

Around town for my commute? its the worst stop and go traffic, short trip, never warms up, and I still get 17 most days.

Next we will have people complaining about the mpg when they put lift, huge tires, and a roof rack on it.

Those who are buying a Tacoma over a full size truck for better fuel efficiency are in for a rude awakening.

The new 2.4L 4-cyl turbo, the T24A-FTS, will be lucky to achieve 20 mpg under real life conditions.

and yet the real world data says otherwise...

given the propensity of people to add a bunch of wind-drag bolt-ons and bigger/heavier tires, the data for 2024-25 Tacomas seems to be doing pretty good.

Contrast to the data for 2024 Ford F150 or Tundra at an avg of 17.20 and 16.64 respectively, with the Tacoma seeing 10-15% better MPG.

All that said, it really doesn't matter since a truck is not the vehicle style for those focused on fuel efficiency,

Things have radically changed in transmission controls over each of the past four decades. Now there's an entire computer that "learns" as you go to help better determine rpms and shift points. If you haven't, just drive normally and see what happens once you cross ~ 3,500 km / 2,200 mi. That's when I saw mine make a marked improvement in the average mpg. I've had no issue with the MID calculation of avg mpg per tank being within 0.2mpg of my manual straight calculations (as I've posted elsewhere). This break-in duration appears to align to many other folks observations. Toyota doesn't get to make up the claimed MPG rating, the government has a standard test that provides those numbers (whether we like, agree, dislike, disagree that the test is accurate for real world is a different debate). If you have not modified your vehicle from it's factory/stock configuration, then you're likely to see something within spitting distance of the claimed mpg once you cross that break-in and learning period. If you're impatient or disgruntled about it, then get rid of the vehicle. It's your ride and your wallet. Highly doubtful anyone on here cares what you opt for, as long as you feel it's made you happier or more satisfied.
Interesting. My Sport is just the opposite. I used to get 22-23 mpg and now with over 5000 miles, I struggle to get 19...........same type of driving.

I hear all my buddies talk about getting damn near 1000kms until empty on their full sized trucks and I can't even get past 350kms until empty on this Tacoma lol.
Yikes, dude. Granted mine is hybrid, but I often get over 500km on mine with City driving in Calgary with C-rated 33's. Roughly 11L/100km on the highway if I go to Banff and back.

Rocking a Go Fast Camper. Installed a custom roof rack w/a big ass spoiler from Martin Off Road and that helped. This summer currently averaging 18.5 mpg @ 6,800mi on a stock ‘24 Trailhunter w/~400lbs constant.

Bought a chin spoiler for $15 on Fb marketplace a few days ago and decided to do some recon on long range HWY driving where I mainly hit washboard service roads for camping. Chin spoiler needs to be modified for the halos obviously, not too difficult I work in composites and came up with a nice system that unbolts in ~5 minutes w/o altering a thing on the OE. The gaps to fit the bumper are curing tonight…wanna get ~1k+ mi logged with the air dam before looking at the numbers.

Aero and rolling resistance big factors. I don’t give a fck what the lift & mud tire culture says you’re driving 90% pavement and highway in your taco, if you kit your rig correctly the fuel savings can be in the thousands over the life of the vehicle. But then again, who says saving fuel is the correct way to kit your rig…

I previously owned 2003, 2010, and 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road, Double Cab models, and recently purchased a 2025 Double Cab, TRD Off Road. I have just over 1300 miles and have been shocked at how poor the gas mileage is so far (16.3 mpg; as calculated by hand upon fill-up). I was wondering if anyone out there is seeig similar results? Also, being an old, non-tech geezer I am a bit overwhelmed by all the electronic gagdetry and was wondering if that rather constant pushing and pulling in the lane assist mode actually affects gas mileage? I'm about to try turning it all off to see if that helps.
lol did you buy this truck for mpg? Get an electric pick up if you are worried about the mpg. Don’t drive over 65. Don’t lift it.

Not sure what I was smoking when I wrote that lol but I get about 490kms to empty on a full. My average is sitting at around 14L/100kms, wish I had to record what I was getting in Kananaskis when I was out this weekend.
