FWIW I trailered a car from Maine to Maryland in July, car+trailer ~4600#. Watched transmission temps closely, and they never moved above the "middle" of the gauge. Not sure how accurate the gauge is since it doesn't give you a number. I'd certainly be interested in one if temps are an issue.

Yes. I did a hill climb and the truck shut itself down because the trans temp got too hot. Then I got the Mishimoto trans cooler, did the same climb in the same weather conditions and the gauge got only a little above midway. No issues climbing. I talked to Cam from Cam tuning and Cobb doesn't have a setting on the access port for trans temp. So I'm not able to get real numbers. It seems to have literally everything else in terms of data. My truck is also tuned. FYI. I personally recommend the trans cooler. I'm looking forward to this summer to see how much it helps.

You are the first person I have found anywhere that has actually used it.

Did you install it yourself? If so, how was the install?

I tow a 18' fishing boat weighing around 3200lbs combined with the trailer. So far I have not needed the cooler as the temps have seemed in normal operating range. But the more inclines you have to drive up and the lower your speed, the more the transmission temperature will increase as it will be higher load and less airflow. I have been temped to add one just as a precautionary measure. The Mishimoto kit looks really good and install does not seem all too difficult.

My son is a mechanic, so he did it for me. He said it was pretty easy. He isn't freaked out about taking the bumper cover off or anything. I get the impression some one with a little skill can do it. I personally love the trans cooler. My truck shut down 4 or 5 times last year because of the trans temp, so for me it was really needed. I do a lot of off roading in the New Mexico mountains.

Just out of curiosity and testing a theory, what drive mode were you in on the first attempt?

It was in normal. I only started using sport mode after I tuned it. Even now I forget to put it into sport mode sometimes.

Some have posited that sport mode, and even more so, manual mode, makes the trans lock up more fully, reducing temps.
But the trans cooler is probably an improvement either way.

I am also interested in this topic. I tow a 4,000 lb camper. I did the climb from Denver to Winter Park through the Rockies, last summer, and even in tow Hall mode the transmission heats up on long extended climbs.

I did notice on other occasions that tow haul mode does appear to bring of the trans temp down compared to normal settings.
