Though I have not used oiled airfilters on my Tacoma I had one on my 6.7 powerstroke. So this is how I would service the filter first of all 30,000 miles as an interval is purely a suggestion and I would strongly recommend inspecting the filter at a minimum every time you change your oil. Depending on driving conditions you may need to clean your filter multiple times per year. When I lived in El Paso we had sandstorms and afterwards I would be cleaning my airfilter so I would end up servicing mine about every 3-4 months. It is important to note that the fine particles are captured by oil on the filter and once the oil has become fully saturated with particles it will no longer filter incoming air and will allow particles into the engine. So regular inspections and cleaning is critical for your filter to work properly.
How I always cleaned mine was to start with a bucket of warm water and mild dish soap then gently worked the filter through the water using a soft brush to dislodge any of the more stubborn bugs from the filter. Then rinse apply the K&N cleaner to remove any remaining oil and allow to fully dry then simply follow the directions for applying the oil to the filter. The washing with soap first will save you wasting a ton of the K&N cleaner unnecessarily on road grime. Hopefully this useful to someone have a good day!
