I have made some changes but you get the idea. Side steps I added to the rock rails are gone, and I installed a Cali Raised step rail set that I really like. Offers a bit of a platform to step on to get in and to reach up to my roof rack.

Such a sweet ride.

I will continue to be road tripping about 900 miles up to Oregon and Washington to visit the favorite cousins, aunts and uncles. After multiple episodes over a week of deer walking out in front of me several times between Scappoose, Astoria, and Cathlamet, WA, I would feel more comfortable with a steel bumper on the outside not just the inside. Even scarier are the elk that just fucking stand there with their asses or faces sticking out into the roadway and we can’t see them until we’re passing them.

I’m thinking the ARB Zenith with hoops around the headlights. I like the CBI, but there are some problems with the fitment and sensors. Wife also wants a winch since I drive like a klutz into sand or mud boggy spots sometimes. I’d be happy with Harbor Freight but usually they put the snobby ones in the snobby bumpers.

I thought I was done spending on this truck, but it looks like I am right in the middle of things :/

We did not used to have wildfires in Western WA. But times have changed.

You folks down south have a beautiful place to live... with lots of environmental challenges. Follow your interests and you will make a significant contribution. SAR tends to be very intense depending on where you live. We have 39 counties here in WA and 5 probably comprise the bulk of the one to two or so thousand SAR calls we get annually. King, Pierce and Snohomish are the big three... since we have Puget Sound and the mountains literally minutes to an hour or so away. Plenty of opportunity to seek trouble or let it find you.

CA has some fine teams, and some start as volunteer but transition to paid professional.... different than up here or in B.C. They have fine crews there, just like you, Oregon, Colorado... and other places I have had contact with.

My friend Matt installed the ARB bumper. It is really nice on the Trailhunter. It's best to avoid using it to corral the critters! I live in North Bend, 31 miles East of Seattle on I90. We have a herd of elk who live right outside town and hang out. We love them and we all do our best to give them space... but they do wander on both sides of HWY 202 so we just have to be patient.

On a search mission in south King County on HWY 410 years ago, north of Mt. Rainier, in heavy fog, I came up on Elk there standing in the roadway. YIKES. Luckily I was only going about 10mph...

I want the Zenith too but they don’t come with hoops so I’m trying to get them fabricated.

I don't know them but it sure is a small world. I grew up in Bellevue, then in adulthood moved a bit as I was active duty Army after Gonzaga U... then back to Seattle and Eastside after 7 years active. Moved here in 2022 to be in the foothills for SAR response. Probably 85% or so of our missions are on the I-90 corridor, with some north off of HWY 2 and some few (mostly winter) along HWY 410.

Toyota installs a different configuration with the OEM system. There are hardware components added during the build. My Trailhunter has three sharkfin antennae on the roof, not just one. So I am not aware of any ability to add the OEM WCS to a truck not built for it.

There may be some third party solution.

It’s doable but a massive headache. Being an engineer (who builds such systems) I can spend a few hours to prepare the bill of materials, needed parameter change via GTS, etc. It can be retrofit. Just trying to make my life less miserable.

Longshot but maybe you can find a wrecked totaled truck with an OK roof that you could cut out.

Curiosity question: What would you do about the software so that you can see the trailer cam feed on rearview mirror and 14” display, if you’d want those OEM WCS features? I wonder if the software load is different and easy enough to get at the dealer, if it’s not baked into the cake and all of the 14” systems.
