Next Gen 2024 Tacoma BEV + ICE/Hybrid Rendering Previews + Design, Development, Ordering & Production Schedule

We’re excited to bring you a preview and inside look at many details of the upcoming next-generation Toyota Tacoma. We have new information shedding light on development, engineering and production that we’ve received directly from our insider sources working on the 2024 Taco (program code 920B) and Toyota's Tier 1 suppliers.

From this information, our artists have rendered up this CGI preview of the next Tacoma’s design, which was “frozen for production” in late 2020. It was due for executive styling sign-off at the beginning of 2021. The final design borrows many styling cues from the new Tundra, from the prominent and boxy fender flares to its swept back angular headlights, wide pillars and contrasting roof. The 920B Tacoma will offer BEV and ICE/Hybrid versions differentiated primarily by either a shut or open grille and minor styling variations in the front fascia. The BEV version will resemble the Toyota EV truck concept the company revealed in late 2021, but have design refinements to make it more road ready and production feasible. We preview the design of both versions in our renderings. To preview the scale of the new Taco, we also show it sitting next to the current generation Ford Ranger.

According to our insider sources both within Toyota and confirmed through a Toyota Tier-1 supplier, production of the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma was delayed from its originally scheduled production start date of August 2023. The start of production (SOP) is now scheduled for December 2023. It will be in the hands of dealerships and customers between late January-February 2024, barring further delays.

Good work! I bet that is close to the final product. It blends the Tundra influences and the EV truck concept nicely.

Not liking the long timeline tho.. end of next year is an eternity away.

I think they updated the post. Since the hybrid and ICE models should be identical it was probably just noting the difference with the EV model.

I think Toyota said every vehicle would be electrified by at least 2025. For the Taco the question is whether it coincides with the 4G launch or later?

The Tacoma is expected to get the T24 engine connected to a 10spd auto for the conventional powertrain. The big question I have is if the Tacoma Hybrid will have the A25 with a longitudinal hybrid trans (comparable powertrain in the Highlander and Sienna) or the T24/hybrid trans (comparable to the NX powertrains)

Per Toyota directly, the 2024 Tacoma production date provided still remains accurate and hasn't changed as of this month and also last month. Final evaluation units should begin assembly soon and be indicative of every aspect of the final design.

There are mules wearing the final design, but in such a shoddy fashion, they are not road-tested and in limited number. Such a prototype format was used for the Tundra in 2019.

Just as I said before, but had forgotten to provide a specific date, new units begin assembly at the beginning of the month or in a few days, November 1st IIRC, wearing virtually aspect of the final design. Pilot production will begin in Mexico next summer (2023), ahead of Job 1 on December 1, 2023. Unofficially, I am told reveal should be in the spring, but where I do not know. That's only one aspect that can change easily, unlike much more hard dates such as production.
