Should I spring for a TH?

I've been planning to get a hybrid OR...but I need a LB. I'm starting to think, despite the price tag, the TH juice might be worth the squeeze. The OR hybrid is already a buttload and, with the add-ons I want, it's almost TH price territory. I am not a fan of the sport bar or snorkel, but the other TH perks are nice but not needed.

Ideal OR spec:

• TRD OR ($41,800)
• i-FORCE MAX ($4,800)
• Upgrade Package ($4,330)
• SDM ($1,230)
• Long-bed...not a thing ($500)

Aftermarket

• Rock sliders ($1,500)
• ~2" Lift (~$2,000)

Total: ~$58,500

For a relative $6k more, I'd get beefy shocks and UCA, three skid plates, exhaust dump, R/T tires, heated/cooled SofTex, digital RVM, HUD, 3D camera view, air compressor, heated steering wheel, power tailgate, recovery points, and a sport bar I could sell for ~$500. There's some fluff in there for sure, but +$6k upgrade for all that isn't insane.

Meanwhile I'm seeing TH marked down by $5k in some places. ORs are probably similar. So relative price for me is $54k for sufficiently loaded OR, or $60k for a TH...+TTL. I could cross my fingers and wait for a '26 LB Hybrid OR, get a '25 non-MAX LB, or swing for a TH.

I see now why Toyota hid the Hybrid LB behind a big up-sale. Suckers like me are actually considering it.

I like my trailhunter for all the details that you threw in that middle paragraph- The HUD was the selling point for me, and the air compressor has turned out to be really amazing. The heated/cooled seats and the heated steering wheel are magnificent, but the gas mileage is a kick in the junk.

If you can afford the Trailhunter get one. If not buy what you can afford .. I love my TH

If you can afford the Trailhunter get one. If not buy what you can afford .. I love my TH

Thanks, y'all. This would be a BIG purchase for me, but something to enjoy for 20+ years. I've never had a new vic. With used prices the way they are I might as well. I'd probably pay it off in <2 years even w/o a trade-in, so not exactly beyond my budget.

I heard one fella who nabbed one for 60k even. Sure enough I'm seeing a few on autotrader in that vicinity. I'm assuming the downward price pressure is going continue for a while, but I could be wrong.

Oof. It's like mpg and gas prices are what they were 15 years ago. An absurd bright side is that Tacoma now cost twice as much, so fuel is relatively half the price of owning/operating.

Do check specs on the 25 TH. I think they dropped the HUD. If your into the aux switches, there are more amps on some 25’s vs 24’s, probably hybrids in general. Check the online manuals.
