Does anyone have a recommendation for an aftermarket retractable bed step? Am considering the OEM version but it is 3x the price of several aftermarket steps I have come across. Is this is buy once, cry once situation or is Toyota marking this way up and the aftermarket versions are perfectly acceptable?.

I know some steps have a conflict with the recovery points, but that listing says that you need to remove the Pro's trailer hitch to install it? I also wondered how high off of the ground it is. In the picture it looks pretty low, which might still leave a big step up to the bed.

When my OEM bed step on my 3rd gen failed* after several years, I replaced it with an Amazon aftermarket model with good reviews and it's been just as good as the original.

I'd just go with a good third party model.

(*) OEM failure was the mount fractured and the whole step just fell off the truck (fortunately) as I was stepping UP onto the truck. Woulda really sucked if it'd happened as I was stepping down. With the OEM unit doing this, I figured I can take the chance with a third party model for a lot less $$$

I got that one. No complaints with it so far.
Thanks

Just curious, what is different about the TRD Pro's Trailer Hitch that you have to remove it to install the Bed Step? I have a Limited, it's working great on my truck.
Great question. There is nothing different about the Pro hitch that I can tell.

It won't fit on the Pro because of the red recovery points.
I think that is true, but they should say the problem is the recovery points, because a lot of 4th gens have had them added. And what does that have to do with the trailer hitch?

I never buy stuff online when the details don't make sense, because who knows what else they have wrong?

Timely post! While loading mulch at Lowe's yesterday, I got the comment, "Why isn't there a bed step or something to get into the bed?"

It'll be here Wednesday.

Solution for the step and recovery point combo
Thanks! I thought I remembered something like that but I haven't tried to find where I saw it.

I do need a step and that bracket looks nice and secure.
