Hey folks! We've been really busy, but I wanted to pop back in before the weekend to share some shots of the intercooler and piping installed on our Tacoma. Keep your eyes peeled for that Engineering Report soon, hopefully next week!

Also wanted to let everybody know about our newsletter! The way it works is when you go to sign up, it asks for the year, make, and model of your vehicle so we'll only send emails about Tacoma-related products. We try to keep it pretty tailored so we're not filling up your inbox with a bunch of junk. You'll get a 10% discount when you sign up, although please note that discount doesn't apply to pre-sales.

Hope everybody has a great weekend!
-Josh

Hey all! As promised, I'm here to share our Engineering Report for the intercooler! The report dives deeper into the design and testing results and really lays out the work we put into this, so I'm super excited to share this with you all. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for posting the test summary. I would be curious to know how ignition advance compares between the two as a result of the reduced charge air temperature.
Also, what octane fuel was used for the testing?

Hey @Andrace - Whoops! Looks like our original reply to you was wiped out in the forum update. Sorry we didn't get back to you sooner.

Our engineer for this project is going to do a deep dive to try and get an answer regarding ignition advance. As for fuel octane, our tests were conducted with 93 octane.

Hey folks! I took some shots of our freshly installed transmission cooler earlier and wanted to share them with you all.

In other news, I've updated the name of this thread to just "Mishimoto R&D Thread" since now we're talking about more than just the intercooler. This will be the thread where I'll drop future updates, pictures, and engineering reports for anything 4G Tacoma related, so stay tuned.

No worries, I saw the reply before the site crashed. More of a curiosity, ask. I would expect all the trends to correlate with what you've already demonstrated
Thanks

Will the Mishimoto oil cooler sandwich plate fit on the gen 4 tacoma with a stock oil cooler?
Sandwich Oil Cooler

I want to install one, but there is a fin around the oil filter housing to direct oil as its draining. Anyone tried yet?

Hey @Andrace - Sorry for the delay, we had a few vehicles in our dyno queue ahead of the Tacoma. I spoke with our engineer on this project earlier, and here's what I found out.

We looked back at the data and didn't see any significant patterns. The peak charge air temperature on a single run with the stock intercooler was 94 degrees, so while we were able to make a significant improvement upon that, bringing the peak charge air temperature down to 82 degrees (5 degrees above ambient), it was not enough of a difference to cause a significant shift in ignition timing. We use a very large fan setup to accurately simulate 60mph winds, so the results are accurate in our testing, but testing outside or with an inferior fan setup may change the results and cause a larger difference in charge air temperatures, and therefore a potential change in ignition timing.

Hey @Nor Cal Taco Off Road - Our engineer believes the sandwich plate might have an issue clearing the coolant lines coming off of the oil cooler. Unfortunately, we can't say for certain without performing a test fit.
