I think my issue is different than most people are interpreting what is really going on. I filled up my truck and the gauge stayed on 3/4.
See if the information on page 90 of the owner's manual is of any value.

I have tried these methods and am currently in the testing phase. I should be at about a half a tank and that's about what my gauge is currently reading I'm going to go fill it up tonight. One thing that I haven't done in the past which could be causing an issue is sometimes I do not shut my ignition off when I fill up.

99% certain that's your issue.

With a 18.2 gal fuel tank at 16.7mpg it should say about 300 mile range. When I full up it says 255. Been driving for a few days now it says 196 and the gauge hasn't moved yet

This must be one of the biggest misconceptions about these trucks.

Your DTE calculation is based off of ~15.5 gallons of fuel & your current MPG reading. If you reference your user manual (shocking I know, why would anyone do that?!) you will see that you have ~2.7 gallons of fuel reserve, i.e. once your calculated DTE reads 0.

SOOOO, doing the math for your reading here (18.2 gallons TOTAL - 2.7 gallons RESERVE) = 15.5 gallons USEABLE.

15.5 USEABLE gallons x 16.6MPG = 257.3 miles, which is right about what you said it was showing.
