I recently bought a 25 SR form my Son and he wanted the OFG bash exhaust. We look3d up a few vids and realized his SR didn't come with a resi so the loudest his exhaust would sound was already there. We pulled up to my 26 and low and behold his was a bit louder. I did purchase the A@E but I used the 2 tip rear and saved the bash ring. I sized it up for him and noticed it would fit perfectly. Measuredtye length and cut his EO pipe. Bought a 2.5 to 3" reducer welded it in place slipped the 0FGpipe on directly and slipped into hanger. It lined up perfectly.

So for anyone looking to install just the axel back yes you can it will take some patience and visual but it fits. AWE will also sell the bash tip pipe for 80 bucks.

Have fun guys

SR also doesn't have ANC or ECE, which is for the better imo.

But yeah no resonator here since day 1. Never really felt it needed one?

We had no clue we just watched a bunch of fluff on YT and sounds. Looked up under and said yep nope. Time to cut and weld. Saved him a grand.

Sound will change a little with an axle dump or cut. Actually think it sounds better to be honest. More bassy, gives the engine a little character lol

I think it having no resonator might have something to do with the SR’s having leaf springs. At our dealer we found out that the TRD exhaust system is not compatible on models that have the rear leaf springs as the leaf springs interfere with the rear tail pipe. Possibly there wasn’t room to fit the resonator on those models,

Fully flexed out the leafs get very close to the exhaust, which is part of why I got the trail pipe

Now imagine flexed the other way lol

I will say though look how stiff the frame is on these:

nearly at the bumpstops on the rear end and the tailgate isnt smashed into the bedside

Yikes, You can definitely tell the 4th gen’s were designed solely around having rear coil springs, and were not really mean’t to have rear leaf springs. Not sure why Toyota didnā€˜t decide to make them all coil springs. At least the frames are all fully-boxed now, hopefully we don’t run into any of those rust problems that the previous gens had.

Based on?

Switching to SUA is a result of the move to coils but it also is almost entirely a benefit in all situations aside from extreme flex.

No more axle wrap is cool.

I really want the TRD dual tailpipe tip. Sadly, I don't think it will be even close to fitting with the leaf springs. any regrets with the axle dump? I don't really love turndowns which is why I've left the stock tailpipe and black tip for now. I feel like I have no good options because of the leaf springs. I actually like that I have the leaf springs but I feel they could have fit them to the truck a bit better such as fitment with the exhaust. I'd prefer rear firing exhaust tips really.

I mean I don't think Toyota expects people to be flexing out their trucks.

Axle dump is fine, a little more bassy than stock but no ANC or ECE on these trucks so no weird interference like some guys were getting.

I didn’t mean it from a performance standpoint, I meanā€˜t with how close the exhaust gets to the leaf springs due to how far back they had to make the rear leaf mounting points to accommodate it compared to how much space there is with the rear coils and the track bar mounting points. I think the Tacoma is the only TNGA-F platform that offers rear leaf springs.

The rear leaf spring mounting point was where we found the issue of installing the TRD exhaust on leaf spring models. The way Toyota designed the rear portion of the TRD exhaust pipe, causes the exhaust to contact the rear half of the leaf spring that extends further back to the vehicle due the the mounting location, compared to how the track bar mounting point is on coil spring models.

The whole stock exhaust system on these trucks is a little wacky. The way they routed it and the size of the tip and placement makes zero sense. They did it right on the 6G 4R not sure why they chose such a large exit in a bad spot for the Tacoma.

Am I screwed up here or does my SR have the resonator? So I guess automatics don’t have what’s in my pic?

Huh

You have MT though, higher output T24A, I guess they put resonators on those, interesting šŸ¤”
