Hey guys, just posting to see if anyone else has had issues with their clutch slipping on the MTs? Just reached over 21k miles and clutch has been fine until recently. Anytime I am in 3rd gear or higher and try and give it more than half throttle my RPMs shoot up and do not increase wheel speed. Yes, I can drive stick and have for many years, and know how to treat a clutch. I have been fairly easy on the clutch, minus just a couple times of needing to unbury my truck from soft sand in 4LO. I’ve tried looking for aftermarket replacement clutches which I’ve had no luck finding (haven’t looked too hard yet, though.) I am aware dealers won’t even entertain replacing a clutch under warranty. Mainly just seeing if this has been an issue for anyone else? Thank you all for your time in advance.

Bummer, and I haven't had any similar issues, but I only have 8k on the truck.

Only 3K on my 6MT but I have taken it offroad in 4LO, 4HI, up and down steep hills in low RPM on 4LO... all kinds of "abuse" compared to how I drive on the street and no issues yet. I feel like unless you are resting your foot on the clutch pedal (not saying that you are!) these clutches should take a lot more abuse than you've probably given them. Maybe you had a dud of a clutch?

I’m thinking it was just probably factory defective, good luck telling the dealer that:cwl: but no, left foot stays well clear of the clutch until it needs using. Guess I’ll just have to eat the cost of an OEM assembly, going to be a weekend filled with hatred, rage, and cursing from under my truck here soon.

Probably worth a shot to have a dealer tech drive it on the interstate and punch it...21k and less than 18mo that really shouldn't happen regardless of what you've done to it. Even if just to document it...you can then call the toyota corporate and they might do something for you. The dealer said my June 23 Rav4 hybrid needed new brakes after 18000 miles and 11 months and that it was our fault (yeah right...a mazda cx5 doing the same driving went 55000 miles and a hybrid can't?)...dealer didn't do anything but toyota corporate gave us a $300 voucher....better than nothing I suppose.

Ten months and 16k miles, and the clutch seems fine. However, from day one to today when I back up, the clutch has a weird odor. Not exactly a burning smell, but concerning. Only smell it after I park and get out.

You’re not wrong, there is no excuse for the clutch to fail this early. I have an appointment on Oct 24 to get the brake and trailer BSM recalls taken care of, as well as the pesky A/C compressor chirp. And now this… truck has been nothing but issues. I’ll ask if they can test drive it but not charge me a diagnostic fee; not too hopeful. Thanks for the advice man

Yeah mine would smell like straight fish if you have to slip it in reverse or in the mud. Definitely the clutch you are smelling, I’d keep an eye and make sure it doesn’t start slipping on you too.
