That part has zero purpose - when the hood is closed, there is no gap for critters to enter the air box. The weatherstrip on the intake seals against the hood.

And it will absolutely restrict air flow.

To prevent raccoon fiestas, I’d love to install the air intake vent protector. Our yard has not only raccoon visits, but pack rats, brown rats, mice, voles, gophers, and lizards.

Well we live off into the woods around our house, we eat up with all kinds of big to small animals and they done damage to a couple of our auto's already, bad, bad! Squirrel are made to eat, not look at! So I need one bad!!!
