Just curious on thoughts on the Toyota 10000 oil change.
I think I’ll be doing 5000 mile oil change intervals verses 10000
Just don’t feel comfortable waiting 10000 between changes

I'm sticking to the severe schedule:

2024 Tacoma 10,000 Mile Oil Change 1767585919601-4u

We all do stuff that falls under "severe" use, even if it's mundane like starting the truck cold to move it 200ft (happens sometimes) lol

The only variation I'm going to do to the schedule above is trans fluid at 30k instead of 60k.

I did a diff and tcase change at 30K. Diff fluid was definitely dirty! I’d recommend a break in change at 10K? The magnets were caked up with fine pulverized metal, pay special attention here and clean them thoroughly. Tcase fluid looked like it came out of the bottle.

500 miles initial, then at every 5000 or 6 months, which ever comes first.

Doing mine at 8000km which is right around 5000 miles. I think we follow the severe schedule in Canada as a general rule.

Got so distracted by the picture I forgot to actually reply. I change mine every 5000 miles. Idc what anyone says, turbos need good clean oil at all times. I also idle the truck for a minute or two when I arrive at my destination to let it cool. I'll also be going to a thicker oil as soon as the warranty is up. I deal with modern engineers on a daily basis. Their way of thinking is completely different than those of us who actually work on and use any of the equipment they design. There are always variables they don't account for, whether it be environment or abuse and misuse. The majority of their testing is lab or simulation based, and a ton of math.

Now my old Ramcharger with an N/A 360 magnum swap? Yeah that gets changed whenever. 5k? 10k? 15k? Who knows, whenever I feel like it. Good quality oil and filter in old iron means it will outlast me and probably the engine in my Tacoma. Large tolerances and doesn't make enough power to hurt itself. The rest of that big old pig will fall apart around the engine.

Prime example, I also have a 72 plymouth with the factory 318. If I had to guess based on the amount of sludge I pulled out of the lifter valley and around the valve springs the oil hadn't been changed since the 80s. I cleaned it out, replaced some pushrods, and flushed it. Still runs like a top.

500 miles intervals I change my oil 2 times a month
Literally, embarrassingly, this was me! The oil dilution was so f'ing bad, I had to keep vacuuming out a couple quarts and topping off to the correct level. So not a full oil change, but I had to closely monitor it as the level would go way way over the full mark in a short amount of time/driving. It was super annoying.

However, I recently threw the towel in on 0w20 and did a full oil/filter change, switching to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30. I'm happy to report, after over approximately 1250 miles (2000km):

A - my engine has NOT blown up lol
B - my oil dilution issue has significantly decreased, to where it's not really noticeable now on the dipstick. I also feel more confident in knowing the 5w30 oil can better handle the viscosity reduction resulting from dilution
C - the engine is quieter on cold starts, and seems quieter overall
D - fuel economy has surprisingly not changed
E - hybrid system operation has not changed, it's still smooth and starts/stops the same as before
F - I've driven in the same extreme cold temps (-10f and below), and even had to leave the truck cold soak without being plugged in...and it started without issue

So far, I see zero cons with 5w30. If anything there has been improvements! So if I can switch to 5w30 during the dead of a northern winter, on a hybrid truck...and still reap some benefits...I pray for y'all running 0w20 down south in the heat !!
