I think it’s a big number 2 and then either the first big line you come to or 8 total lines after the 2 X a big number 8 and either 12 total lines after the 8 or 3 small lines, the medium line then 3 more small lines, a big line, then 3 small lines then the next line is the one you want. :wait:

Facebook link of a mouse nest on a cabin filter of a 4th generation Tacoma. I believe that the mice chew through the plastic to gain entry. Not sure if the Facebook link is getting through. If it fails again I will attempt to send the pic. Based on what I'm seeing though it looks like a relatively easy fix using a more robust screen.
Sorry I kinda hijacked your thread, but I’ve had the same issue.

So where did the bastard come in from?
My guess - up through the cowl drain holes.

The cabin air intake is in the cowl, which is a metal trough that is covered by the plastic trim piece with the intake vent holes.

At each end of the cowl, there is a gap where the fender attaches which allows water to drain down behind the fender.

In theory, you could add some mesh either around the cabin air intake itself or at the drain holes. But then the drain holes will clog really quickly...

Either way, remove the cowl cover and take a look.

I think these are the drain holes. The largest are about 1/4" x 1/4". To be accessible by a mouse, they need to have a 5/8" hole, or a slot that's about 1/4". The vertical slots are .15".

Negative.

I'm talking about the drain holes in the metal body cowl itself. To see them, you need to remove that plastic cowl cover.

They aren't necessarily round drilled "holes", more like gaps at the ends of the cowl for drainage.

I just had to pull a nest and 50+ acorns out of my filter (replaced) and fan motor (removed & cleaned). In order to see the entry point, you'd need to remove the windshield wiper cowl.
This is definitely a problem, similar to the 3rd gens. The images shown above of the cowl are not the entry points for the rodents. This is the 2nd nest I've had to remove now.

I pulled the plastic cowl cover. Here is the entry point for the HVAC in the cowl itself. (You can also see where they chewed through two wires that I'll splice back together)
I will measure this and model something to 3D print a cover today after work.
