2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road in Celestial Silver
I’ve seen a lot of conflicting information about whether 285/75R17s fit on a stock 4th gen Tacoma, so I figured I’d share my experience in case it helps someone else.

I have a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road with the stock suspension and stock TRD wheels. I installed Toyo Open Country A/T III 285/75R17s, and I have zero rubbing. Based on what I’d read from other owners, including some running wheels with slightly different offsets than stock, I wasn’t expecting any issues, and that ended up being the case.

I did order the ARK crash bracket delete kit since it was only about $50. I don’t think I’ll end up needing it, but I figured it was cheap insurance to have a little extra clearance at full lock.

For the spare, I went with a 255/80R17. It’s about an inch narrower than the 285s and only about 1.5% smaller in diameter, so it seemed like a good compromise. It fits the factory spare location better while still being close enough in size to work as a nearly full size spare if I ever need it on the trail.

Hopefully this helps clear up some of the mixed information that’s out there.

There will always be variation in opinion on this for two reasons. Tires don't run true to size, and different owners have different use cases. I also have that size on stock suspension, it does clear fine on the street. It will not off road.

How do you like the Toyo A/T 3? I’m looking to get 34’s here soon. Currently I run the Nitto ridge grapplers 285/70 and it’s been a great tire But I’m looking to make a change.

I haven't used mine off of pavement yet, but I have the same tire and size and like them so far. Quieter than some of the more aggressive A/Ts I've had like it.

Stock wheels? Wheels make all the difference.

Stock wheels is implied by the thread being about bone stock trucks. But yes, wheels do make a difference too.
I'm asking about your wheels (asking if you have stock wheels) since you said yours rub off-road. I don't believe the stock wheels will rub off-road with 285/75R17.

I went aftermarket, but I could be incorrect about them rubbing off road. I wasn't judging by my setup specifically, just by eye when I had the oem wheels/tires and new ones side by side. The overal diameter of the tire itself looks as though at full stuff it will likely contact the fender liner, especially if the wheels aren't straight.

Getting ready to order some Defenders and the info about the spare was one of my questions. The 255/80R17 is the perfect answer. Thanks

I went with a 235/80R18 for an even skinnier but same diameter spare as 255/80R17. Using that as my spare for 34x10.50R17. Can barely see the tire hang down and it fit right into place. It is so tight I could not fit any larger of a tire, for sure.

The unfortunate part about that option is that the 18x7 OEM spare wheel is expensive and not exactly easy to find.

Im on the same size tire but with a -10 offset wheel. I had to cut a very minimal amount of plastic on both the front and rear lower front wheels wells. Nothing major at all. If it was as slight as it was for me with this offset, I assume this tire an a stock wheel would fit just fine.
