I kind of wish that someone would make an aluminum flat tank that sits against the front of the bed and has a capacity of between 15 and 20 gallons.
Contact a local fabricator and they can make exactly what you want.

I had a chat with the folks at LRA at Expo today. Here are the bullet points.
  • They have heard what people are asking for through the reservation site.
  • They are working on a factory replacement tank. It will be in the ~35 gallon range. Estimated release he said was 3 months.
  • They are also considering a spare tire replacement tank. Size unknown. Release date unknown.
  • They do install.
That’s great news. Thanks for the update. I’m still surprised with the length of time it has taken for companies in this space to see this as a viable upgrade for the fourth generation Tacoma considering how quickly all the other mod companies came out with upgrade solutions.

I suspect since this is a fuel tank there might be regulations they need to get around. For instance, CARB might have heart burn with a new or aux fuel tank. Of course, they could just refuse sell to California addresses. I talked with a company at Overland Expo that said exactly that. Seeking government approval for anything takes time.

This range subject is why i cannot decide between the Tacoma 18g and Tundra 32g, i want the Tacoma TRD Pro but really need the Tundra TRD Pro @32g. This is a big dealio and not easy to deal with currently.

Well, good news for you folks holding out on a LRA tank. I'm at Overland Expo and I had a chat with them. The tank is in production. Once they receive the first tank it will get installed, and they will confirm fit and function.

  • The tank will operate the factory gauge.
  • It's a 33 gallon tank.
  • It does not hang down. They increased capacity by going up, and out.
  • Cost, around ~$2,600. Might have been $2400, I don't remember.
  • ETA, mid September.
  • If you are on their wait list they will send you notification.

Did they mention if it will require relocating the spare tire?

It's a factory tank replacement. See the tank offered by Helivue if you want a spare tire replacement tank.

I've been following this thread like a hawk and even subscribed to LRA's email notifications for updates. Surely somebody has an inside scoop or a status update by now? I'm ready to put a deposit down today for a bigger fuel tank because I can't stand this 18 gallon tank. It's atrocious having to refuel every 230-240 miles. Shame on Toyota for giving us such a small tank while advertising 23 to 24 MPG when 90% of us are lucky to see 17.5 MPG, even with a light foot.... on STOCK TIRES and FACTORY SUSPENSION.
