Anyone notice theyre brake losing sensitivity??? takes more effort to stop...

Ok, heres the deal...
Dont think im imaging it as I asked my 15 year old son after I noticed it & he agrees.
I have a 24 sport just shy of 6k miles on it with 285 75 17's

Was always impressed how well it stopped, even with the larger tire / wheel combo.
Yesterday & today I noticed what feels like I lost some brake sensitivity as it takes more effort to stop the truck.
Nothing crazy or drastic, almost like I have glazed rotors per say & pad to rotor contact isnt as efficient as they were.
At 6k miles thought, doubtful...


Just seems like I need more pedal effort & takes longer to stop, as stated, less efficient...
As stated it's subtle but scratching my head so I figured ide ask if anyone else is experiencing this?

We dont need to discuss the brake line issue, that isnt it.....
Anyone?

I noticed it as soon as I put bigger tires and wheels on.
Im leaning towards maybe a software setting with all the advanced adaptive cruise control BS. collision avoidance, all those weird driving modes I dont understand what all the random lights are...
I really dont pay attention to any of that let alone have any idea how it all functions...
Those 6 lights on my dash instrument cluster are always changing...
Not sure if im bumping buttons on the steering wheel or its just changing on its own based on met perimeters...
Like I said, pretty much clueless when it comes to all the various driving modes, adaptive cruise, collision avoidance, etc...
Sometimes icons are green, sometimes theyre not, sometimes theres, 3, 4, 6......

Im wondering if one of those adaptive cruise, collision avoidance, etc settings makes the brake performance just a bit lazy to compensate / be able to take over electronically, if that makes any sense....

I noticed this as well… its very random, brake pressure is not consistent.
Right
Took my kid to school, it was acting up....
Got home & then went back out to refill water bottles & bad-ass braking is back....

Like I said, im clueless when it comes to all those various lights & modes....
Not talking sport, normal, eco....

figured someone more in-tune with what's going on than I am, has answers.....

What you’re feeling is mostly normal with a mix of bigger tires and Toyota’s driver assists.
  • 285s add weight + a longer rolling radius, so the brakes have less leverage. You’ll always need more pedal vs. stock.
  • TSS 3.0 (PCS/PDA) will randomly prime or apply light braking, which makes the pedal feel inconsistent.
  • Drive/MTS modes also change brake control, so mode changes = different pedal feel.
  • Hybrids (i-FORCE MAX) blend regen + friction. When regen cuts out, you suddenly feel more pedal effort.
  • There is a recall on rear brake hoses, but that shows up as a soft pedal or fluid leak—different than the “bite on/off” you’re describing.

If you want to confirm, toggle PDA/PKSB off in the MID, stick to Normal mode, and make a few stops. If the pedal feels consistent, it’s not a defect—it’s the assists/regen doing their thing.

bigger tires = more effort, random feel = safety systems/regen, but still check your VIN for the recall.

As I stated, totally understand the added weight & size of a larger tire affects on braking.
Had the wheels since November & didnt ever notice it till recently.....
Must be one of the driving modes...

Definitely what I was leaning towards...
Since one second it was mushy, then another drive cycle everything seemed fine...
As stated, I dont mess or really understand all the driving assist modes,
Was just an observation & it was noticeable.....

Wasnt a good feeling, felt like old glazed, in-efficient brakes...

What you can do to recuperate full pedal force is at a stoplight with the truck on, press the brake pedal as hard as you can three time.

This should firm the pedal for some time.

Called my writer, no parts available yet for the sport, sit tight & wait.
Thats not the issue though....
sounds like its the normal "drivers assist" doing what it does & im just aware..

I recommend going to Carbon Ceramic pads. They work great even when really hot and no fade. Also, firstly try going on a good straight lonely (if you can find one) highway and get up to 60 or so and stand on the binders down to about 20mph then repeat about 4 or 5 times. I mean braking where your brain moves forward in your skull. Then take it home and preferably park it overnight. Tell me what you think after that.

I havent looked but not really acting like its a leak, I think you nailed it, driving assist BS..
Leak wouldnt be an randomly intermittent symptom..
My understanding is the recall is related to mud getting inbetween the wheel & caliper, tearing up the brake line..
Only dirt she sees is the walmart parking lot, im a princess....😁
Most of you guys talk shit about my type of Cali truck, its a lifted 2 wheel drive...

Easy enough to take a peak though, will do in the morning.
Nothing on the garage floor though so not blown-out.

With only that many miles, my money is on the kid....

He's pretty observant....
Im the one that initially noticed it..
Been a tech for 32 years, Im pretty observant...

Was picking my service writers brain about it, was curious if he's had others mention it.
He even said, cuz of what I did for so long, way more observant than majority of his customers.
