The first (and only) time I let Discount Tire mount new tires on my 2nd gen they scratched three of my wheels. They claimed that the scratches were already there and I didn't have a picture to prove they were lying.

Oh man I'm sorry!

Luckily (as you guys know) I take a shit load of photos of my truck. I can at least narrow it down to the chips were not there prior to the new tires and are seen there pretty are soon as I got 2 miles home from install.

I’ll tell you exactly how that happened. When they installed new valves, they likely pried against the side of the rim pulling installing the new valves. Assuming new valves were installed.

They were. And both the chips are right at the valves. So irritating man. I just don't know where any pride in workmanship is lately.

Here’s my experience with that company. Pull my last truck in for new tires and they offer to chk my alignment, which they had just started offering. Knucklehead kid drives my truck off the lift from 40” up in the air and into the racking. Truck levered on the frame, which bent it and totaled the truck. They bought me a new Tacoma. There are better options than DT.

I recently bought a couple sets of tires and went through a couple tire changes at Discount Tire. I didn't think to closely inspect everything after the last set of tires were installed which was about a week ago. I was getting my PSI dialed in today and noticed 2 chips on 2 different wheels (LF,LR) along the edges of the wheels and scuffs on all of the center caps. I did a quick Google search and the chip depths and locations seem to align with some other folks' experiences of damage after tires changes.
I don't want to go in there and cause a bunch of trouble, but I also haven't been off road and haven't even parked next to a curb since the install (no rash on the tires either). Haven't even been on the freeway for more than 10 minutes at a time.

Have any of you had this happen ? What do you guys think ?

Kinda bummed. Thanks for the help.

That could be from servicing, but when my wife's car only had 350 miles on the odometer some road debris from an accident made a ping and scrape noise at about 60 MPH that did similar damage. That vehicle didn't have any tire service yet, and the visual damage absolutely showed up after that.

FWIW, I bought some clear paint/coating sold as for wheels and put it over chips. It seems to stop or delay corrosion later.

It's 100% this. Call or visit them ASAP to report the damage @PNWkip .

Thanks man. I reached out to the store, corp. customer service, and the BBB to cover my bases.

I wanted to let it go, but I can definitively say it was them after reviewing some side profile photos I happened to take before and after the install. I asked them to either purchase two new wheels directly from the dealership or to offer a store credit to offset the cost of a new set. We'll see what happens.

Although I would also go for new wheels, the option to get them refinished is a good one if DT doesn't come through.
An option for sure! I just feel like you can never make something new again. The city I live in seems to have a particularly pervasive problem with shoddy workmanship as well, so I'm hesitant to do that. Plus I'm all spun up now, so I'm going full send

Those chips look like they were caused by the tool that they use to install valve stems. Location is correct too.

Not on my Tacoma but years ago I had a flat tire with a sidewall puncture on a Porsche Macan and had to have the tire replaced. I took it to DT cause it was the closet shop to where my tire got damaged. DT damaged the finish on the rim replacing the tire. They did pay to have it refinished for me after I put up a fuss.

I'm 95% sure they will offer something to fix this. It might be refinishing, which is questionable depending on the vendor.

This is the tool they used. The tech levered it against the edge of the wheel to pull the valve into place. Whenever I use this tool, I put a piece of plastic against the wheel to prevent damage (I'm a DIYer working on my own wheels so I care more than average).
