Hydrophobic air filter cover for Trailhunter?

Has anyone come up with a hydrophobic air filter cover for their Trailhunter?

Interesting question. I heard it has drain holes to let water out that gets in from the top - is your intention to seal that up and then add a waterproof filter?

Yea if there’s an imminent storm on the way - rain sleet or snow - having a waterproof sock over the intake isn’t a bad idea until you forget about it one day and remote start.

No, not over the intake/snorkel it’s self but over the cone air filter as a pre filter that always stays on.

I have not. I was hoping for some recommendations. I might look at it more this next weekend.

So I purchased and installed today a “Filterwears” K338 pre-filter. Used a 6” clamp to secure and went for a drive. No issues so far. Will check in a week or two to make sure it stays in place. I hope that if water does get into the intake this winter that this stops any water entry into the engine. I did verify there are two small drain holes in the filter box. Bonus is that as this truck has a washable air filter and now a pre-filter, this should help to keep it clean as well.

So to be clear, these are K&N oil type filters? If so, I am not a fan of those in general because it is easy to under or over oil them. On my 2005 I run a set of AFE dryfit filters that I rotate out every oil change, rinse and then dry, no oil.

I am wondering if you use this hydrophobic filter on the K&N but do not oil it if that can help take the place of the oil in terms of catching debris? Of course there is the standing issue of water coming into the snorkel while in boost in heavy precipitation that might sway that equation back towards the oil.

Either way and right out of the gate, I want to get a second or even a third filter to have ready to go on oil changes, I am strict about this to maximize airflow into the fuel mixture.

I just confirmed that and ordered a spare filter, pricey sucker. Back to oiling, ugh...
