I'm so glad I didn't end up doing business with Shock Surplus. I, like presumably everyone else, have watched a ton of their youtube videos so I figured may as well give them some business. I was ready to buy these shocks from them and have them install them. They were going to film it and put it on youtube. Well, their install quote was mega high and they didn't seem to be in any rush to do it. Then I dug around a bit on their reviews.. Pretty poor. Exactly the type of stuff you're dealing with. I'd just file a CC chargeback tbh.

What kind of lead time did you have for the 817 springs?
I actually got pretty lucky I guess and Dobinsons just had them in stock. I ordered them through mudify and they arrived like four days later.

Just a heads up for anyone reading along: I just installed the Dr. KDSS track bar correction kit after a few weeks of being on the higher ride height. It wasn't SO needed on the 255/80s, but on heavy falken 35s I would say mandatory. Significantly improves ride quality and firms up the steer.

Did you ever get your order resolved with Shock Surplus? I am having an absolute nightmare with them. I ordered a set is front/rear 6112's, they sent me someone else's order, I paid to have the installed on the 1'st clip, they came on the 6th. The rear shocks were not included in the shipment(they sent me someone else's order per the wrong order number on the box, I'm assuming they only ordered fronts). After several emails, they finally acknowledged that they owed me the other half of my order, but they said the shocks were on backorder (their website showed they were in stock). Finally they ship the shocks.... to the wrong address on the other side of the country. I contacted them to let them know that the tracking number showed the wrong address, did they stop the shipment? Nope. I got the notification that my package was delivered today to some dude named Sean on the other side of the country. Dealing with Shock Surplus has been a comedy of errors. I am probably 20 emails deep and over a month in and I have no idea if my order will ever get fixed.

Hopefully you had a better experience and finally got your springs.
I have not yet received the Dobinson springs… but that’s not on Shock Surplus (SS). Dobinson just doesn’t have them in stock yet. The fault of SS is that they offer the spring at all. Also, their email communication has been terrible but any time I call them, it’s very helpful and pleasant. I called Friday afternoon and will be getting the springs this week.

I was at overland expo west this weekend and spoke to a few people who poo poo’d the mix/match of OME shocks/struts with the Dobinsons springs. It was strongly recommended to get the stock weight OME springs (up to 440lbs) as I only have 350lbs constant load and have a good daily driver, avoiding a really stiff rear. Better to squat a bit the 10-15 times a year I’m really heavy than have a harsh daily driver.

I bet that the Dobinson springs would be great but I’m happy to go with the OME. Stoked to have an install date now too…

As for the next reply by Hunter, I opted not to go with an upgraded panhard bar and only extended rear sway links to let the sway bar lay level. I’ll have a 2” lift in the rear and from what I was able to read, the links should be sufficient to prevent lean. Can always do that relocation bracket or upgrade the bar later if needed. We’ll see…

I'm glad you read the reviews for Shock Surplus before you went through them. I cant believe that they wanted to use your truck for a video and charge a lot for the install.
Yeah, the CC charge-back is an option, but I already have half the order. I'll give them this week to get it straightened out first. I just want the shocks.

You should call them tomorrow. They are very helpful on the phone. They can’t help Dobinson’s inventory. Apparently, they are notorious for long delays. Their only real fault is not being up front on whether or not they have the shocks on hand or if they order direct from Dobinson and are at the mercy of them.
