question. I just got a 25 Tacoma and feel like I’m not getting good mileage I’m getting 15 miles per gallon. I’m on the point that I been driving my 06 2.7 Tacoma every day and every time I come home and I see my new Tacoma and I just shake my head.

After taking it out on a longer extended drive/trip, the mileage got much better for me. Initially it was disappointing to be getting consistently lower than stated mpg, but after getting it out on the road beyond the everyday routine driving it really improved. The pic below is better than usual (actually just took the pic as a "best one yet" record), but I typically get much better than what it was the first few thousand miles.

you’re probably gonna have a break in period where this engine won’t get amazing MPGs. Give it some time…

drive modes do make a difference. ECO does more than throttle your acceleration, it’ll reduce a bit of power to your HVAC / air conditioning won’t feel as super cold, other electrical, etc. ECO mode is ideal for city driving, not much effect for highway so normal mode is fine for longer trips.

aero makes a difference. Air dam installed?

rolling resistance. Beefy new treads or OE tires?

New truck / fun to drive / fast off the line / once all that settles down you’ll see the fuel efficiency climb

any constant weight penalties on your rig?

Drive it till it starts getting better. BUT don't get rid of the '06. I enjoy driving the '24 but missed my old one so bought an '04 for a daily driver.

I've added 1300 pounds to my truck overstock, and I averaged 15 miles to the gallon. No matter what I've done, or how I drive or even with what mode I drive in..even
Before the OTT tune, it was worse.
Believe it or not With the OTT tune, I've gained 2 miles to the gallon on average and a whole lot more power.
I recommend the OTT tune to everyone who has modified their vehicle at all.

Trailhunter long bed. 3300 miles on it so far, Averaging 17 MPG since new. 1900 mile road trip in there as well. Pretty terrible honestly. But I still enjoy the truck.

For reference, it's consistently worse than a gas 3.6L Gladiator Rubicon I had in the past, and that was on 35" tires. But, that one could get down into the low teens in a really strong headwind and the Tacoma was way more power, is quieter, etc.

But sometimes I do miss my diesel gladiator that would run 22-23mpg doing 75mph into a headwind. Tradeoffs. Still happier overall.

With 12,000+ miles behind me, off and on road work, sports, back country and for my business travel my '24 TRD OR usually gets within or just over the EPA ratings. It cannot get good highway mileage above 65 MPH, in headwinds, or most towing.

To achieve that I use ECO a lot, but am a smooth driver no matter what. I also use the adaptive cruise a lot. Also, my fuel mileage improved at about 4-5000 miles which is when I did first oil change. No ethanol premium fuel boosts mileage a bit but is not cost-effective. I only get the premium fuel on occasion.

My 2024 OR uses 12.4L /100km in city driving. Truck has 21,000 km on it.
That translates to 19 mpg in city driving. Not bad. Just happy I get 500 km on a tank.

Also remember, the tank still has about 80km in it when it tells you to refuel.

We really need a list that we can link to of the things that kill fuel economy. Top two on my list would be.
1. Stop and go driving (in particular if you have a heavy foot).
2. Speed.

As far as break-in period is concerned, I never noticed any difference. Of course, my break-in was probably a bit different than most because I live 52 miles from the nearest place with a speed limit over 65.

You know what I been thinking about that the other day lol. I guess this Labor Day weekend I’m going to the country hill here in Texas. Thank you
