Was washing today and even though I’ve probably washed it 20 times since I got it, this is the first time I’ve noticed that they missed painting an area. This is front passenger door open, looking towards the hood. Not a big deal, but just curious if anybody else has the same missing paint since I thought most of the painting was done by robots.

Driver's side is fine so it's interesting how this could have been missed. Curious to see if it's in more vehicles. I'm not too concerned either.

It is the same on my truck too. That area must be in the paint "shadow" of the bracket that attaches the fender, and it isn't on my driver's side either. It looks like mistake in training the paint robot and I bet it is on every 4th gen.

In all these pics the paint in that area looks gnarly - although I know it's cosmetic and we can't see it with the doors closed. That it's only on one side and the other is fine, I'm surprised its been missed by that many Quality Control cycles.

I don't think that QC is as important to Toyota as it was in the past. It is just another way that they are reducing costs to stay competitive in a market with radically increasing prices across the board.

Are we sure this is a mistake? Are they supposed to paint that part?

I’ve been able to see primer in similar spots on almost every vehicle I’ve owned. I’m sure my new Tacoma is the same, and that doesn’t bother me.

It doesn't bother me because it is primed and in a very out of the way place you can hardly see. I would say it is normal, except that it is not like that on the driver's side. It is just a minor oversight in the paint process IMO.
