Quick backstory, at about 12,000 miles on my Trailhunter I was driving through high altitudes in a heavy rain storm at freeway speeds. I had a sudden loss of power and several error codes. Had a dealer check it out and they couldn’t find anything wrong. That was last November. Everything was fine since then.

Fast forward to now, I’ve added 12,000 more miles. A couple days ago I was driving home. Going about 60mph in perfect weather.. Suddenly got a check engine light and a couple warning codes.

Went straight to the dealer. Two days later and they still haven’t figured out what’s wrong. They say the codes indicate it’s running too rich and the remedy may be to replace all the injectors. They need to also check the mass air sensor and the intake. Waiting for Toyota to give them guidance.

The worrisome part: the service advisor says this may be a problem with ALL ‘24 Trailhunters. And Toyota is looking very closely at the situation.

Personally, I can’t help but wonder if this is snorkel related. I would happily delete that if there was some decent looking solution to cover the hole in the side of my truck.

On the bright side, the service department has been very helpful and Toyota set me up with a rental car.

I also just had a maintenance done last Saturday, which Included an oil change and getting the recall taken care of. I don’t think that is related.

Yeah should be under warranty anyways I wouldn’t worry unless they try pushing something on you but it sounds like your dealer is cool so far

You could buy the front right fender probably, one without fat hole in it. And then have it painted. A costly snorkel delete, but it is possible.

It'll probably be bad MAF from oil on the air filter, it's happened to a few other TH's, haven't read about it happening on the Pro yet

Same thing happened to me. I was higher altitude driving hard uphill in rain. The dash lit up like a Christmas tree and pulled over to limp it to a dealership. The issue was air filter oil getting all over the MAF sensor and causing issues. Dealership replaced the MAF and I've since purchased a Stillen intake with a dry filter. Should fix the problem and doesn't sound like a shop vac is running outside my passenger window anymore. I kept the snorkel but it's no longer connected.

Just spitballin but maybe a tune like the OTT tune would help? Other than that an air box swap if thats causing the issues and just leave the snorkel for "looks"

I’m just passing along what I’ve been told. They believe the issue is a dirty air filter. But the Trailhunter has a special air filter. And that special air filter is back ordered. So they are hoping my truck will be drivable again mid-June.

Super lame. But hopefully they will have air filters readily available when the rest of you TH folks need one.

Yes, the THs have a special air filter, but it's WASHABLE! So if it's dirty, the fix is to CLEAN it, not replace it. That sounds weird to me. Maybe I'm missing something?

Current one is for the trailer blind spot monitor. It's not a recall but a "special service campaign".
This is the first I have heard about a special service campaing or recall on the THs... but then again, I'm in Canada, and we are the last to her about EVERYTHING! Yeesh.

Yeah it doesn’t add up.

Furthermore, I JUST had a maintenance done days before and they checked the filter. They did mention it was a concern, but did not offer to replace it.

I’ve repeatedly asked if there’s some sort of temp fix they can do so that I can drive my truck until they get what they need. And they say there’s nothing they can do.

If I’m speculating, I suspect there is some design flaw on the intake side of things that they are correcting, and waiting for the new parts to arrive. This can’t just be a maintenance issue.

I don't own a TH, but I received the campaign notice today on the app for my 2024 Canadian Sport .

Easy fix. If you don’t mind shelling out a few hundred dollars, just get a new intake. The Stillen one doesn’t require any tuning changes, and the airbox/ filter swap is pretty easy. If there is a future warranty issue, I would just put the old intake back in.

As for the dirty filter? They were over oiled from the factory, (maybe just a bunch that made it up to Canada?), and they are getting oil all over the mass airflow sensor. The dirty air filter sounds fishy to me.

Also, with the new intake I’ve had a small bump in fuel economy now too.
