I was on the fence between the 255/85/17 Mickey Thompson BAJA BOSS (you gotta capitalize it) and the Toyo Open Country A/T3.
Local shop quoted me $1400 installed out the door for the BAJA BOSS and $1100 OTD for the Toyos. I figured a 34" might be pushing it as far as clearance, gearing, all that stuff, and that the 255/80 open country would be a great compromise.
Once I decided on the Toyos, I was second guessing it quite a bit, but after driving these I'm really happy with them. They're quite a bit lighter than the BAJA BOSS, and seem plenty tall, though I wouldn't say no to a little more lift.
As far as the wheels... I wasn't planning to get them at all. I actually like the stock TRD wheels alright, and for what I'm going to have to sell them for to get a buyer, it feels like a waste. The store owner offered me a great price - another grand on top, so $2100 and change out the door. Hard to say no!
Anyway, I LOVE the ride so far. I've never driven an E tire before so I didn't really know what to expect, but I figured it would be hard. It's not. It's quite plush and comfortable, honestly feels just like stock tires. I love the stance and look. No modifications were made. Crash bar is fully in tact, and I haven't felt or heard any rub at all, but it does look a little tight.
If you're in So Cal and have an SR/5 and want a good deal on some wheels and tires, you know where to find me!
