SmartCap Adventure Topper Installed

Local shop quoted me $550 for install. From what I’ve seen it seems to require a bit of assembly and electrical tapping.

It took me an hour and a half to assemble and install mine. The electrical is simple. Maybe ten minutes.

Got it installed today and took it right home to load up my gear. It was the right choice for sure so thanks for all the input. I have a decked drawer and cargo glide coming on Monday so I will post pictures when things are in place.

I dont feel like there is anything out there with a better fit to this truck. The positive air vent, camera window, and gullwings all add to the money for value. On the negative side it took a bit more like 4 hours install. The 3.2 ft lb torque on bolts is crazy low. Had to drive a ways out of town to find one but did find that Autozone of all places has one you can see online for $70ish dollars thats they loan out for free with deposit. Also, my coils are a bit worn and the camera points way too low out the back window to be of real use. I have Icon overland +500 springs to install to counteract the weight.

Been looking at these and wondering if anyone with a TH has installed and can comment on whether the cap interferes at all with the 4 exterior bed rail lights? It is hard to tell from pictures if it would cover some/all of the TH lights. Really use those during hunting/camping and don't want to lose functionality.

I don't see how a SmartCap would interfere since it sits on top of the bedrail.

They are unimpeded on the TH.

Got mine put together & installed. Followed the advice on this thread regarding gluing the entire length of seal. Definitely seemed like the right move. After about a month of install, I have about a 2 inch wide section on the right rear corner where the seal flange is wanting to slide out or "flip out". The seal itself seems to be staying in place just fine, its just the small "flap" or flange portion of the seal. I am going to start by checking the torque on that right side. Other than that, the Smartcap has been awesome.

Howdy all - curious how all those in this thread with the topper installed -- how is it doing?

Im going between the Smartcap and the OVS. OVS is about 1/2 the price but not really finding much wrong with it.

Would love to know how its been holding up now for those with it installed.

Any and all thoughts is appreciated.

Thank you for the message and that has been the general theme that Im hearing.

I have heard stories of it leaking though I imagine that is people not putting them together properly.
It does peak my interest around the general differences between Smartcap, OVS and other toppers like GFC.

Zero leaks. I put mine together myself, and if a dealer puts one together, the odds of getting the proper torque are probably slim.

Love mine. I have had some issues that I think were related to it being the first production run of gen 4 long bed.
Had some leaks even though I assembled it with the correct torque. I think that the seals got redesigned after that, but I just fixed it with some butyl caulk. Also had the powder coat peel off of the roof panel (I've seen a couple of complaints on that). Others got new panels from Smartcap but I just got a can of rust-oleum. No way do I want to take it apart and re-assemble.

Update on my end. I got it on yesterday.
A local shop had them in stock and assembled.
Ill shoot some more appropriate photos but sharing a few.
Fun fact, the Agency6 handles fit perfectly to replace the OEM handle. Just added a few rubber washers to help seal it.
