The cap, directly from SmartCap was $3600 shipped to Alaska in a week and a half. Surprisingly fast and Its definitely quite well made. My last tacoma had an ARE fiberglass. I think any future caps will be metal from now on.

Do those covers for the locks come with your purchase? Or did you get them from somewhere else?

If only there was a method for having the rearview camera extend as simply as their harness for the third brake light.

Just looked and anything with a window on the cap is over $4K. Looks like a sound product but they could be a little more clear on the differences between models (is it really that hard to say?: all solid, solid sides rear glass, all glass hatches). You only get a better if you get into the fitment spec table.

I keep passively looking for a cap that's compatible with a t-rail tonneau cover still in place.

I've got the EVOs and love it! Dont have a picture on this comp to add but I do have a question... anyone have luck putting 3rd party cross bars on it? I'm not a fan of the look of the smartcap specific load bars but am having difficulty finding info on how easy/hard it is to mount 3rd party stuff on it. I see the smartcap needs M8 screws and people have overdrilled the holes that are in their brackets (as everyone else uses smaller screws) but that info is sparse. Would love some advice!

Specifically I was looking at the UpTOP universal cross bars but UpTOP themselves said those are not compatible. Not sure if thats a hard no or not...

The newer version come with the lock covers to help with dust/ice. They also come with the red button on the inside that release the door. You can reach out to smartcap for replacements that you can install yourself.

Thanks guys. I bought my smart cap last year and did not get these covers. I'll reach out to them and see if they can send me a set.

The only downside is I constantly have to push the rubber seal back in. It gets pushed out under compression in serious off roading. Otherwise great, and amazing for putting a dog in the back too. I have the Evo Sport.

The “new” locks with the red buttons inside are having some quality control issues at the moment. Mine would randomly unlatch while driving or if you touched the door firmly. Smartcap sent me a set with the covers like you have and said they were the South African version of the locks and were much more sturdy. Only drawback is they don’t have the unlock mechanism from the inside. I think they may be shipping caps with the tougher locks until they can figure the issue out.

edit: customer service was amazing when the latches wouldn’t work on one of the doors. Had the new latches at my door in just a few days
