There’s a way to adjust those V2 latches using a couple of screwdrivers and prying the catch so that it engages more strongly. My dealer adjusted mine and they were fine for a couple of weeks until the V3s came in.

Folks,

A number of us have experienced the spontaneous opening “feature” of the V2 latches (the ones with the red button on the inside that allow you to open the latch from inside the cap). Mine started popping open in hot weather a month ago.

SmartCap sent my dealer six of the old V1 latches and ai got those installed as a stop-gap until the new version (V3 I guess) was developed and tested.

I got them installed yesterday and what a difference. It’s a totally different design with a slide button that releases the catch from the inside. It’s an independent mechanism as opposed to V2 where the inside release button was actually part of the catch. This allows deeper engagement of the latch to prevent spontaneous opening.

The lock cylinder even operates more smoothly so I think they have reworked those as well. They certainly feel better.

I tried to post this on the SmartCap mods FB group but my post got taken down. Maybe I’m a beta tester and I’m not supposed to share this info but I didn’t sign anything…

You only got the latches because you agreed in an email to their stipulation you do not share it on any forum or social media. Don’t be a dixk

I got the latches through my dealer. They were sent to them and not intended for any specific customer. The dealer offered them to me with one stipulation, that I complete a survey after I’ve used them for a month or so.

I have never asked for, nor received anything directly from SmartCap, nor received any email pertaining to these latches. Everything was done through my dealer.

If you don’t know the whole situation, maybe just mind your own business.

The only way anyone gets those latches is to agree to those terms. Not that it’d ever get to the point but your dealer could get sued for being a proxy to your post. Just sayin

If the dealer had told me that there were restrictions on publication relative to these latches then I would never have posted. And if my dealer asks me to take down this post I will.

The fact remains I didn’t agree to anything except to provide feedback.

So no, you can get those latches without agreeing to any nondisclosure terms, because I have them and didn’t agree to anything except providing feedback.

Lol not you, ya dolt. Them. They got them by agreeing and them giving the latches to you makes them responsible for your actions. I’m not debating this. I’m just saying be careful. And be respectful to the company trying to fix a problem.
