Stock OR Shocks - Potential Upgrades

Wondering what the consensus is on the stock OR shocks in comparison to the previous gen 51 and 61 series Bilsteins. Are these better than those given that they’re dual reservoir? It’ll be interesting to see what aftermarket options Bilstein will have later this summer. I imagine they’ll have a fairly reasonably priced dual reservoir that’s an upgrade to the OEM option. Maybe?

I am extremely impressed with the stock OR suspension. Absorbs big bumps very well and is very compliant on rough trails. The only reason I could see you would want to upgrade to Fox or King is if you wanted a 2.5”+ lift or were racing.

The shocks are the same diameter as the old 5100s but with a remote resi. I think you’d have to step up to 6100/5160 in order to have an upgrade over stock. Integral bump stops mean an above coil spacer is no longer a detriment, and with the extra travel a small preload spacer isn’t going to be bad either. To top it off, 33” tires bolt right on. It’s a seriously capable truck, even in stock form.

The shocks otherwise seem great but I get a random clunk from the front left side over some otherwise mundane road imperfections that force a quick rebound. Possibly I got a defective shock but some on here have mentioned it’s normal behavior for the internal bump stop? That’s what’s been leading me to consider upgrades. I’d be more than happy with them otherwise.

The shocks otherwise seem great but I get a random clunk from the front left side over some otherwise mundane road imperfections that force a quick rebound. Possibly I got a defective shock but some on here have mentioned it’s normal behavior for the internal bump stop? That’s what’s been leading me to consider upgrades. I’d be more than happy with them otherwise.
I can report similar behavior in my OR. I had correlated it with the 300lbs in additional weight I've added via rock slides and skid plates.

I can report similar behavior in my OR. I had correlated it with the 300lbs in additional weight I've added via rock slides and skid plates.
One side or both? I only feel it on the left side of my truck. Possibly some mounting points need torqued properly.

I haven't paid that close of attention; after I heard it a few times, I just make sure to hit any bumps/potholes very slowly to avoid it.

The clunk is the nature of the bistien shocks.

So, I have a 24 TRD OR and initially I was not too impressed with the suspension, and the bump stops were very disappointing. Well, at 12k miles in now, the bump stops don't seem to trigger on speed bumps anymore and everything has loosened up a bit. Give it time before you replace everything. That being said, I will probably switch to some Bilsteins at some point down the road, but the stock TRD has come around nicely.

Apart from kings or fox is there an upgrade that will not require 4k?

I want to make sure on road performance is very comfortable around the shitty roads and potholes in texas. Not too much dipping upon braking, but without too much lean on cornering. Am I asking for the impossible? I noticed since I added all kinds of skid plates, that the suspension performance may have been degraded a bit. Some folks suggested putting some alldogs springs in the front to level it. There isn't too much assurance thought that it will enhance performance. They say it is subjective.

But they are 3k now. If they go on sale for a good price then yes. I wonder if the solved the reservoir mounting issue?
