I've finally been able to narrow in on the root cause of my vibration. It appears to be a driveline related issue.

Procedure:
The rear axle of the truck was placed on jack stands and the front wheels were blocked. The rear wheels were removed to eliminate any wheel balance issue out of the equation. The lug nuts were reinstalled to keep the rotors seated. The with traction control off the truck was then accelerated slowly.

Result:
At 25mph the whole truck starts to shake. This continues until 34mph. Changings gears does not change the result. The vibration happens whether you are accelerating or decelerating. Putting the truck in neutral does not change the result. The vibration always occurs in the same speed range.

I was able to capture this on video. The end goal is to get Toyota to fix or buy back my truck. I've been having issues getting them to believe that this is an issue and a Toyota service tech even said that this was "a normal characteristic of the vehicle". Putting a camera on the driveshaft I was able to visibly show that the yoke starts to vibrate at 25mph. I'll be trying to capture a few other angles to better capture it on video.

One last thing to note. This is might only present as issue with some configurations like the double cab long bed as it has a different driveshafts. 2 piece steel on the long configuration vs 1 piece aluminum on shorter configurations. There may be some variation there but that's what I've seen on the trucks I've crawled under.

Great work! It is pretty sad when an owner of a Tacoma puts in more effort to find the problem than your dealer ever did. It can't be a characteristic of these trucks since a lot of us don't have that problem. Telling people that all kinds of problems are just normal seems to be way too common of a response from dealers these days. That is pretty lame IMO.

Now for the challenge of getting Toyota to fix this. Good Luck!

They aren’t gonna fix it… they’ll say the FTS determined there’s no problem end of story.
