I've finally been able to narrow in on the root cause of my vibration. It appears to be a driveline related issue.

Procedure:
The rear axle of the truck was placed on jack stands and the front wheels were blocked. The rear wheels were removed to eliminate any wheel balance issue out of the equation. The lug nuts were reinstalled to keep the rotors seated. The with traction control off the truck was then accelerated slowly.

Result:
At 25mph the whole truck starts to shake. This continues until 34mph. Changings gears does not change the result. The vibration happens whether you are accelerating or decelerating. Putting the truck in neutral does not change the result. The vibration always occurs in the same speed range.

I was able to capture this on video. The end goal is to get Toyota to fix or buy back my truck. I've been having issues getting them to believe that this is an issue and a Toyota service tech even said that this was "a normal characteristic of the vehicle". Putting a camera on the driveshaft I was able to visibly show that the yoke starts to vibrate at 25mph. I'll be trying to capture a few other angles to better capture it on video.

One last thing to note. This is might only present as issue with some configurations like the double cab long bed as it has a different driveshafts. 2 piece steel on the long configuration vs 1 piece aluminum on shorter configurations. There may be some variation there but that's what I've seen on the trucks I've crawled under.

Great work! It is pretty sad when an owner of a Tacoma puts in more effort to find the problem than your dealer ever did. It can't be a characteristic of these trucks since a lot of us don't have that problem. Telling people that all kinds of problems are just normal seems to be way too common of a response from dealers these days. That is pretty lame IMO.

Now for the challenge of getting Toyota to fix this. Good Luck!

They aren’t gonna fix it… they’ll say the FTS determined there’s no problem end of story.

Since I'm dealing with a new vibration on my truck as well...

Did anyone ever have success getting their dealership, or Corporate Toyota, to fix this?

@Reptar - you got a new driveshaft, but did it also vibrate right away? Or gradually?

I'll try that driveshaft camera test this weekend to see if that's my issue.

The vibration was present with the new driveshaft pretty much right after it was installed.

I am not sure if this would help or not but for those of you that have a 2 piece shaft, have you tried putting some spacers under the center bearing mount? I am curious if it is an angle issue and by slightly shifting the bearing down a bit, it could help correct any odd angles.

For those experiencing vibrations in an Offroad that has a one piece shaft, I have no idea what could be causing your vibration. I've had mine for a few months now and haven't felt anything out of place.

Sadly no it was an issue with the driveshaft not how it was installed or what angle it was at. My driveshaft had over 0.040" of runout.

Damn.

Do you think the issue is inherent to the 2pc Spicer driveshafts that come on long bed trucks?

I had that thought too, since carrier bearing spacers are commonly needed after rear lifts.

When I loaded 500lb of crap in the bed of my truck, the suspension squatted ~1.5" from stock. The driveshaft angle of the rest half was now slightly up from perfectly in line with the front half. The vibrations didn't change at all. That's not a definitive test of course...

Man buying vehicles after COVID is such a crapshoot.

All suppliers everywhere just checked the fk out and never clocked back in.

I agree. Overall vehicle quality went straight to hell after COVID and it doesn't look like it will ever come back to where it was.
