I sent you a direct message. Hope it comes thru - if not let me know and we'll work out something else.
Yes, I can see your pics. Interesting for sure. One of your entries shows you put 18.5 gallons in the truck. I see some other mpg anomalies like you went 254 miles on 7.3 gallons. Must have been all downhill.

Anyway, fun reading. Thanks for sending it.

In my 24 OR Premium, non-hybrid, I’m finding that I get better highway mpg in Normal vs Eco mode. The Eco mode forces the engine to “lug” in the same gear longer, which spools up the turbo whereas Normal mode will let the engine shift sooner and leverage the correct gear in the tranny to stay out of the turbo. I was seeing 16.5-16.7 on the highway in ECO and am seeing 17.7-17.8 and climbing in Normal. I’ve only had the truck for about 2 weeks and it now has 4k miles on it, I bought it with 3k miles.

That is true for my truck too. Maybe Toyota will eventually update Eco so that it is more effective. People use it thinking it will increase mileage when it actually decreases it in many cases.

I ran mine in ECO mode until the transmission went out ( I had one of those.) Have run it in the NORMAL mode since and have had better mpg's with the new transmission from the start.

I get 14.3. That’s it. It sucks. Period. I don’t care who’s fault it is, it sucks and it’s on Toyota to address it.
With close Tacoma and 250 series Land Cruiser associates, time, plus comparing drivers and style, my conclusion has been personal responsibility and sagacious driving are not Toyota obligations. In that circle I've noticed reasonable driving achieves the EPA ratings for both.

There are lots of posts and evidence that winter short distances cut the efficiency and so does above speed limit driving - not just hard acceleration. I told my cousin who changed from OEM to oversized A/T class tires that is not a Toyota problem.

I just finished a month and thousands of miles of ski area tripping between 855 ft above sea level to CO mountain passes. One week carrying friends and a lot more gear. Faster than 70 MPH and big headwinds had impact. Fully loaded reasonable driving at legal highway speeds would be as high as 22.1 to 23.2 MPG.

Premium fuel can boost my MPG 8% to almost 15% but the price difference exceeds that so I don't use premium or no ethanol fuel often. Full payload high traffic on freeways and toll roads or mountain passes would be examples.

My observation has been similar but gentle or modest city driving seems fine in ECO mode.

One thing I'm aware of is no matter what I drive with family and close associates is my fuel economy always beats them and I arrive same time or sooner but I also have experience driving semis, heavy machines and small aircraft. I think I'm smooth and wise against many drivers. I always get 1 - 3 MPG more than family members and friends driving same vehicles.

Up north with milder summer temps owners can get away with ECO. Down south we need the air conditioning compressor running full time due to the heat. That means Normal is the mode of choice.

And for my driving style it doesn't really save me any gas anyway.

I've had my new Tacoma TRD OR for just over a week and as of this post have 175 miles on her. I'm not sure if something is wrong with the truck, or the computer but it's the worst gas mileage I've ever seen!! Worse than my 2019 tundra and worse than my 2008 Tacoma!! The computer says I'm averaging 13 mpg!!

Now what weird is, I put fuel in it yesterday and on the way home it said I was averaging 20-23 mpg. Than poof! All day today, between 12-13.9 mpg. I haven't done the manual numbers yet but something is way off. Either the motor, or the computer.

Is anyone else having/had this issue with their new Tacoma? Is there something else in the settings I need to reset?

Note: the truck is completely stock, and mostly highway miles to/from work. Average about 70mph on the highway
I am having the same issue with very poor miles per gallon in a 2025 Tacoma Trailhunter. I have racked up 1290 miles of poor gas mileage. There is no way that Toyota is unaware how poorly these vehicles are performing, yet they put a tag on the window claiming 22-24 mpg. I believe a class-action suit regarding this crap would be appropriate. The dealership where I bought the vehicle has been worthless.

TRD OR and I just clicked over 3k miles and averaging 19.5.
Like everyone mentioned get a couple tanks burned through it first. When I first got mine I think it was the same about 13 mpg but it averaged out over time.
Yeah, I can only imagine how bad the mpg would be if I tried to pull a trailer with this piece of junk. It sure warms the heart to see 11.1 mpg. Of course I thought things were bad when I saw 14.6 on the highway. Nothing like that robust 250 mile range on a tank of gas. Thanks for nothing Toyota.

Your mileage will improve around 5000km or 3000 miles and even more after that, just be patient, that little 2.4 is tight and if you have auto transmission it is still in learning mode. I have 32,000 km on my 2024 Sport Premium and it's getting 24 mpg hwy and 20 mpg city consistently

95% of my driving has been under comfort mode (normal + avs). I would wager you'll see a difference in how it's driving once you cross 2200mi/3500km and the TCU has learned your style of driving and acceleration. Switching to 89 or 93 octane from 87 didn't move any needle far enough to offset the nearly $1/gal more in tank cost (but that is my driving style in my vehicle).

Notice the step change I had when I crossed 2K mi, then 2.2K mi.
(note: the two tanks in the 17mpg range were loaded bed and towing a loaded utility trailer)

A little over 1500 miles on my new TRD OR. I researched the break in cycle and tried to stay on track with what was recommended. My drive home from the dealership I was getting over 20mpg, then after the first gas fill up I was getting about 19.1 mpg. After I performed the 1000 mile break in oil change, my mpg went up to 19.5-19.6. Interestingly, I get better gas mileage driving in sport mode than in normal mode. I would recommend checking the fluid levels (oil, transmission, coolant) to see if anything was low leaving the factory.
