Hey y’all,

I have a stock 2026 Tacoma SR5 4x4 with OEM 245/70R17 tires and wheels. I’m interested in upgrading to 265/70R17 tires (like the TRD Off Road) to get similar trail capability.

Can 265s be mounted on the SR5’s stock 17-inch wheels? I know both trucks use 17-inch wheels, but they’re different designs, so I’m not sure if they’re fully compatible.

I’m also curious about suspension differences between the SR5 and TRD Off Road. If I run the same tire size as the TRD, would overall ride height and capability be comparable, or does the TRD suspension make it significantly different?

Basically, if I upgrade my SR5 tires to the TRD Off Road size, will I achieve similar off-road geometry, stance, and capability?

Has anyone else attempted this?

Thanks!

No problem, those are actually 17x7.5, I have 265s on a 17x7 (OEM steel wheel).

Run them at 30psi and they will be pretty comfortable.

Well the half inch of ground clearance you're going to gain by going up to 265/70/17s won't really be as impactful as a decent on-road All Terrain or full off-road biased AT (Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail are my next tire).

Your truck will now match TRD OR ride height with 265/70/17s.

What is really going to hold you back is not having skidplates (and to be honest the plastic skidplates TRD OR come with don't do anything lol). It's very easy to incorrectly estimate your ground clearance, and with skidplates it's not a big deal usually :like:

I've seen some cool SR5s with stock wheels up to 285/70R18 (check out the wheel/tire builds section). I think the OEM SR5 wheels look really cool with an aggressive 285. But 275/70R17 is probably the sweet spot on stock suspension in my opinion.
Our SR5 suspension is the same height as the Off Roads, but just not as good as the OR OEM Bilsteins. The only reason they have the 1" of "lift" is their tires.
You can get some cheap or free Off Road take off suspension on the member marketplace though. Someone in my neck of the woods is selling his for $350.
I got bilstein 5100s to upgrade the SR5 shocks and to level the truck. Leaps and bounds better IMO and not expensive.

Here are a couple photos as I progressed just for reference:

1. TRD takeoffs with the crappy 265/70R18 OEM tires to on stock suspension
2. Trailhunter wheels with 285/75R18 on stock suspension
3. And now Trailhunter wheels with 265/70R18

I own a 2024 SR and had those steel wheels and 245. I upgraded to Method Wheels 316 17x8 and 33” tires in the 255/80/R17 Nitto Grappler and they have plenty of room to spare. No lift or shocks added. Words of advice from Toyota, trust our product, no need to replace everything.

Skinny bois! Might do this way down the road when it's time for new tires and I switch to 17s.

I got some SR5 wheels dirt cheap and use them for my winter studded tires in 265/70r17's and they work just fine. You might see a little difference in fuel mpg's but they'll look good. Heed Izzy's advice on the skid plate for off roading; that suspension will let you bounce down on some hard stuff.

Where are you located, if you're interested in a t r d off road suspension with less than a 1000 miles, I've got 1 for 500$ in Washington State.
It includes the upper control, arms and drop links as well?

Thanks! Yea I would've leveled that too. Long boi rake is very pronounced !

But the 275/70R18 Yokohama were a 33.5" diameter according to the spec sheet and no rubbing stock

Do you still get into 8th gear with the 33?

Are the OR take off suspensions just factory OR suspensions that people take off to upgrade? How much was your 5100s and level? I like the look of leveling too. Are the 5100s better then the stock OR suspension?
