Curious how this is going for everyone I’ve seen it’s not an uncommon thing but haven’t seen a recent update.

First shift after cold start even if it’s only been a few hours ect is hard. Doesn’t make a pop sound or anything but it’s a noticeable jolt for sure.
Is this just how these trucks are? Or was there a known issue I missed.
Thank you.

Seems to be "just how it is". Mine does this too.
Although I frequently see that the trucks are about 1/2 - 1 quart low on trans fluid from the factory that probably is the cause of the problem.

Some transmissions do that all of the time, some do it occasionally and some shift just fine. My transmission did that when it was new, but it stopped somewhere around 4-5k miles. It also did some shifts into reverse that were so hard that it felt like backing into something. It has stopped that now too.

These same transmission in a FWD configuration have drawn hard shift complaints in both Toyota and Lexus SUVs for years and Toyota agrees with @maxx075 that it is "just how it is".

I got my truck tuned by CAMTuning. He helped tune the shifting logic and timing to eliminate most of the initial cold hard shift and all the other lugging vibrations I got from the drivetrain because of the crappy toyota calibration. Toyota prioritizes fuel economy and so the transmission is tuned to hurry up and get into the highest gear available which causes hard shifts when cold and quite possibly, wear and tear that isn't normal.

Same, these trucks have a lot of torque, every once in a while mine does it also, I think most owners are more watchful about these things because of the earlier issues with some of the transmissions on the 2024 trucks but I personally don't worry about it and mine is a 2024 .

My ‘24 does it on every first shift after backing out of the driveway. My understanding is that’s how Toyota trucks have always been going back to the first gen’s.

I was reading this and got me thinking...

https://www.torquenews.com/1084/toy...encies-surface-internal-dealership-diagnostic

No issues so far on my 2025 Limited with ~7200 miles

Has anyone changed their first transmission fluid and differential oil exchanges at 5,000 miles to flush out early manufacturing debris? This article is recommending that.

I did an early oil change at 5K since the truck was about 9 months old and I had to get a new battery replaced under warranty and state inspection since it was at the shop anyway
