Mines going back on Tuesday for the 4th time to see if Toyota will finally replace my transmission. It's been 2 years of clunking, jolting, bucking, shudders at low speeds
Hopefully they replace it since it's been 2 years of clunking, jolting, bucking, shudders at low speeds that you've been complaining about on here.

Sorry that’s happened I know as far as these issues go I’ve gotten very lucky….

They’ve given me a loaner another Tacoma 2026 sr5 higher package tho.

Something I noticed transmission feels very different then mine as far as the way it behaves
Shifts way smoother just in general ā€˜not that mine was terrible till the big issues but’

Also zero I mean almost zero feeling when shifting between park drive and reverse it’s the absolute slightest mine has always had a noticeable switch however nothing crazy till recent chalked it up to the obvious switching of gears

MY BIGGEST THING
Zero cold start 1 shift bump

Zero

Non exists

This is on 2 cold start drives so far….not saying it’s a good test study but I noticed these things immediately.
Makes me wonder if 1. Im crazy 2. My trans has always been a little wonky and I chalked it up to that’s just how it is. 3. They’ve changed something.

The real test won’t come till I get the new one.
I’m assuming it’ll be a newer production unit since my truck was made. Will update when I get the truck back.

My main point is I could’ve just gotten unlucky or all these things being chalked up as ā€œnormalā€ are issues that may not have shown yet.

For that I hope I am very wrong

UPDATE
Got the truck back yesterday few things I want to note.

I don’t have the paper work in my hand but it stated that the psi going thru the transmission was incorrect however it didn’t state what caused the failure.

Cost out of pocket would have been 12,500$

The truck shifts the smoothest it ever has even when I got it new (yes the transmission is obviously new now) but even the cold start first shift is gone at least in this sense it was before it’s barley noticeable compared to any other time it shifts.

This of course can all change I’ve only put 40 miles on the new trans but like I said before it feels different even compared to when I got the truck new.

Makes me think
1.My transmission was always funky and I didn’t know it
2. Toyota made some type of change and we don’t know about it
3. This take will be completely irrelevant when I start my truck next and it launches me into the atmosphere the first time it shifts.

All in all replacement went well here’s to hoping it’s the last one!

Glad to hear that you got your truck back and that it is shifting properly. These transmissions have always been all over the place on shift quality. Some shift perfectly, some shift hard in the low gears when cold, and some shift like crap all of the time.

My truck had a lot of bad shifts when it was new, but starting at about 5k miles it shifts as smooth as silk. I hope your truck keeps on working like it is now.
